    I had X lock up so completely kill -9 woudn't help.
    Telneting from other box and issuing "reboot" woudn't help. Linux worked but X was completely dead.
    Happened only once during last 2.5 years.

    Xlib is actually one of the more consistant and predictable C APIs out there.
    Posix and unix libc really sucks ( with silly names like "creat" - who that fuck thought that one , how hard was to append one more letter ?)

    These tools are worth the asking price.Specially AcceleratedX.
    However, from the market point of view , you might have a point. It is entirely possible they would make more money if the price was below 100$.

    NT is this regard just about as stable as Linux.
    Linux will not crash but X often will and with GUI development that's very annoying.

    GTK is nastier than MFC. GTK is more like slightly better Win32 API.
    With Qt you have a point. MFC doesn't even come close...

    Be specific. When you talk about server market, agreed. But desktop, consumer market is completely different story. There is nothing out there now better than Windows. Mac, so praised for the greateness of its UI ( which I dispute ) technically is even more behind than Windows.
    What's out there ?
    Being monopoly has its minuses too. Microsoft cannot abandon their user base and start from scratch (like BeOS.) This is one of the reason why Windows has so much junk in it. Still, given current competition one can hardly find anything more usable than Windows (again, we talkin about typical desktop machine.)

    There is no "understanding troughout the industry" as to what you are trying to sell here.
    Microsoft leverages its monopoly but in a different way. For example their Office team used to come up with new controls etc .. which would be introduced as a standard Windows feature at the time new Office was comming out.
    This kind of stuff but I yet to hear about undocumented stuff that MS apps are using all the time.

    How about the fact that 80 % of people are familiar with that?
    Beside, I and several others prefer this approach.
    So there you go .. you are in minority and it simply makes sense to set it up that way.
    You can always change it.

    Simply speaking Borland recognized Qt for what it is , an excellent toolkit which has no equal in Unix world.
    It has nothing to do with KDE.
