One of the nice things about the Marathon series is that it didn't need too much bandwith to play. I could typically get 8 people to play networked games over a localtalk connection with no syncing problems. Hopefully, anyone who ports this game and modifies the networking of it will keep this in mind.
There appears to be some speculation as to if this is also occuring on some of the other moons of Jupiter. According to an article off NASA's galileo page, they indicate that Ganymede will also be looked at
I was a bit curious so I took a look at the Mars Society webpage at http://www.marssociety.org. They have some interesting info on progress towards the exploration of Mars and related projects.
The Mars Society even appears to have some corporate sponsors, which dispells some of my initial thoughts that this could be some random group.
I had an opportunity to hear you speak at a graduation ceremony for the Illinois Math and Science Academy (IMSA) a few years ago. It appeared that you were somewhat in touch with education enviornments today and how they would be in the future.
With the increasing popularity of online interaction and learning enviornments, how do you think today's traditional classrooms will be changing? At IMSA, various experimental teaching techiniques are being explored. Are any of these techniques utilizing online enviornments? If so, how successful are they?
A good point was brought up by Katz, parents do need to supervise their kids. As with taking kids out to the park, or to any other event where other people are involved, trusted adult supervision needs to be present.
Unfortunately, with more parents getting highly involved in their work place, the computer, as the TV once/still is, is becoming a primary babysitter for the kids.
