    Can you tell me which fairy land you live in because in Canada, under 20$K is poor.

    I'm going to guess he's in New York City, because you need to make $80k there just to be able to afford an apartment and food, and for some reason people in NYC assume that the cost of living is that inflated everywhere else, too. Could also be Los Angeles, though. Or he could be a troll.

    How about an application that not only does client/server network processing, but also does realtime hardware-accelerated 3D rendering, multi-channel 3D sound processing, and processes user input from a wide variety of completely different devices. Oh, and it's probably got an internal database that it uses to track its state so that it can serialize and deserialize it to a file at any time. And don't forget that the video, audio, network, and input all have to appear to be synchronized to the user.

    But the problem here isn't actually how complex things are, but how self-contained they are. How many external dependencies does DB/2 have compared to your average modern game?

    The movie, after it was released and they started making money, then basically paid back part of the kickstarter because they are reneging on the kickstarter deal?

    Read again. They're not reneging at all; they fulfilled their rewards. The problem is that they fulfilled one of the rewards in a format that a lot of the backers didn't like. Enough backers were upset that they offered to refund anybody who didn't like the option they were given, which is really going above and beyond what they were required to do.

    On the other hand, Katy's a bit more expensive than other nearby areas. You can find plenty of 3 or 4 bedroom houses in, say, San Antonio proper for around 120k.

    Of course, your monthly payment will also vary significantly based on things like the length of your loan, how much you put down, how many discount points you got, and whether you're paying your taxes through escrow or not. I'm paying a bit under $700/month for a two story, three bedroom/2.5 bath house.

    That's way too high of a rent estimate. Even in San Francisco, you can get a decent place for 1 person for $3000/month.

    To be fair, that's still an insane amount to somebody living in central/south Texas. You can buy a house suitable for a four-person family in a decent neighborhood for under $1000/month.

    Buying from Whole Foods fits that upwardly mobile lifestyle image and it becomes a status symbol for you to pay $20 for granola that you can get at the local A&P for $5.

    The problem isn't with people spending money on expensive stuff. If somebody thinks a particular brand of granola is worth 4x as much, that's fine with me.

    The real problem is with the complete bullshit that Whole Foods sells that people don't realize is worthless. They've got aisles dedicated to "probiotics" and "homeopathic remedies" that are pseudoscience at its best. They're not just overpriced, they're outright scams. That's where the hate comes from.

    There's a saying that goes something like, "In America, 300 years is a long time. In Europe, 300 miles is a long distance."

    50 miles is long for a daily commute, but I've known people who did it. I've got a daily commute of almost 10 miles each way, which is pretty standard where I live. 50 miles would be a pretty reasonable distance for going to see a friend in a nearby town for a day or two.

    "Real players" call themselves whatever they want and do not feel obligated to shoehorn themselves into whatever labels you have personally deemed acceptable.

    And pretty much anybody who plays Starcraft, League of Legends, or Dota 2 competitively (among others) would tell you that "e-sport" is a common and perfectly acceptable term.

    What are you even talking about? We can't observe what happened one second ago; we can only observe the present. We can extrapolate what happened in the past based on observations made in the present, though. Science is a mechanism for understanding the universe; there is nothing real that is outside of the realm of science.

    And besides that, this discussion is about evolution as an explanation for the modern diversity of life, not the origin of the universe.

    Now if you can show me a Tornado running through a car scrapyard and "evolving" a working airplane then maybe i might consider evolution as possible.

    Or show me any Half This /Half that critters.

    Saying those things only tells me that you have no idea what evolution actually is; you're just repeating arguments you've heard before in response to a strawman that exists in your head.

    Pretty much any strawman argument you could prop up has already been debunked by http://www.talkorigins.org/, though.

    It works fine for me. I like the fact I can just copy over the whole eclipes 'install' directory from one computer to another and it just seems to work.

    Same with workspaces, just copy that whole thing over. Works fine.

    That's exactly the problem with Eclipse. Sure, you can copy over the whole "install" directory -- but what if you're working on another computer that has Eclipse already installed and you just want to copy over your preferences? What if I want to share my color scheme with another user? What if I want to upgrade to a new version of Eclipse and keep my old preferences?

    What if I want to create a single project file that anybody on my team can open, regardless of where their Eclipse installation or workspace directory is? Heaven forbid we've got a diverse team of people using Windows, OS X, and Linux, and we want to make a project file that will work without any tweaking for everybody on the team.

    The only other IDE I think is better in M$ Visual Studio

    What I'm hearing is that you haven't used a lot of IDEs, because I've always found VS to be awfully lacking in features compared to most other IDEs. Qt Creator for C++ and IntelliJ IDEA for Java are my preferred IDEs nowadays.

    Yes, that's why Pokemon X & Y are the fastest-selling 3DS games ever and have already sold over 11 million worldwide. Clearly, Nintendo's problem is they've lost the Pokemon crowd.

    It's time to dump the whole Japan-themed everything if they want to continue to be able to sell to the world.

    "Japan-themed"? Have you even played any of Nintendo's recent games? Pokemon X & Y's setting is modeled after France, you know.

    Assuming rape doesn't exist, of course. But that aside, why is the arbitrary line called "marriage" so important? What if a couple gets married and they still can't afford to care for or simply don't want children? Are they not allowed to have sex?

    Using birth control is how you take responsibility for having sex, regardless of whether you're married or not.

    Why don't you either:

    1) Get a stable network connection? or
    2) Just leave it running in the background after you've started it in offline mode so you don't have to go through the oh-so-arduous process of double-clicking on the icon and starting it again?

    And I've never had an issue with it blowing away any of my Skyrim mods, so maybe you're doing something wrong? Try using the Nexus Mod Manager to take care of that.

    Every time the "can amateurs do real science" question comes up, the response is always a resounding NO! from the professional readers of this site. You can't do real science without an advanced degree, institutional funding, and collaboration.

    Where has anybody here ever said that amateurs can't do real science? Freaking high school students can do science -- and anybody who has a BS degree in mechanical engineering is not an amateur, anyway.

    In particular, he doesn't have a degree in evolutionary biology. He's an entertainer.

    So what? You don't need a degree in evolutionary biology to understand how evolution works. Any high school student who pays attention in their biology class should understand it. He's a skilled public speaker and understands the scientific process, and those are really the only credentials he needs to deal with somebody like Ken Ham.

    Why do you want your kids to be completely unprepared for dealing with the real world after they go off to college? These are the kind of parenting techniques that produce kids who drop out of college because they're spending too much time binging on things they've never experienced before.
