  1. Re:What counts? on How many hours did you work this week? · · Score: 1

Let's have a new survey. When you say "I work X hrs each week", what do you count? [ ] Only the hours you get paid for.
[ ] Only the hours you spend in an office / home office.
[ ] Only the hours you actually do business related tasks.
[ ] All the time you spend thinking about work.
[ ] Include all the you spend enhancing skills that relate to your work.
    [ ] Other hours: ____________

Perhaps this would make a good Slashdot poll?

It's not a scheme to lull us into a false sense of security, I think he just posted the thought this time, rather than his conclusions based on the thought. One could easily take this and extrapolate it into a typical Katz post.

why are the authors conspicuously absent from the public forums? I think it would be much more entertaining and thought-provoking if Rob, Katz, and the others jumped into the forums and broke down the barriers between author and poster.

I can't say for sure, but I'll have a guess. It's because there is so much argument (whoops! Excuse me. Discussion) going on that to respond intelligently and in a manner that they can be proud of would require not only time but so much writing energy (whatever that thing is that allows one to write well) that it would not be worthwhile. If all I did was read and write on Slashdot, then I would have very little time left over each day for thinking or eating, much less sleep. I imagine my stamina is not wildly lower than other peoples.
Also, I suspect they do post. It's very easy for one persons posts (unless they post 40 or 50 posts per thread, or something) to get missed amidst all the other posts.
And finally, if you think there are a lot of flames, imagine of the flamers had more than one post to react to. That's reason enough to stay clear.

I know JonKatz would never say that. Because he wants to look "cool," he'd never be caught dead saying anything remotely pro-religion or pro-religious-tolerance in an atheistic society like Slashdot where dangerous ideas like religious tolerance are taboo. In Real Life(tm) non-christians (and specifically athiests) are hounded, pestered, yelled at, and generally bothered. We all HAVE to be tollerant. If we did to christians what they did to us, there would be lawsuits, demand for blood, and other such un-Love-Your-Neighbory things. No way does any christian get away with claiming non-christians (in America, anyway) are not religiously tollerant. The very idea is amusing. Amusing like a rectal probe.

But we don't want to be underground. We want all the goodness that is the current non-mainstream to go mainstream so everyone can wake up and have the goodness. Everyone is still dreaming of a utopia (see also: sane world). Of course it will never happen, but I'd preffer it if it always seemed possible "if...", rather than a laughable fantasy.
