Any naming scheme will be dificult to implement when you're looking at +200 machines. Results are likely as incomprehensible, inpronounceable as ip-adresses are by themselves. Implementing some naming-scheme for this number of servers completely surpasses the goal of naming. Why not just stick with the ip adress naming scheme?
I started, like many others, in BASIC. However times have changed and I can imagine your kids won't be too excited about programming in BASIC. The most important thing (IMHO) to keep in mind is that you want them to start out very simple and small and teach them 'clean' programming. At the same time you don't want to overwhelm them with all that shit that is included in the development environments these days. You want them to learn programming first and not how to use Visual Studio or JBuilder for example. I would suggest starting in plain-tekst Java. Give them a feeling for coding the old way. It is a very clean language and it allows you to start very simple and work your way up. Also, it runs on Linux as well as their win98 gaming consoles;-)
No, it ain't that hard. But as someone else already pointed out: it is fun to experiment. Besides, Irix just looks really ugly compared to my WindowMaker desktop.
I for one, am using WindowMaker and prefer it A LOT over either KDE(2), Gnome and especially Ms Windows. The thing I particularly like about it, is that it is NOT anything like Windows. That's exactly the reason why I don't like KDE. It's just another copy of the same shit I've been using for years.

I've been looking for the original Apple II version many times. You found it!!
Cool.

Can you tell me the basic steps that are needed to get Linux installed on it?
Finally someone who understands. And from my long-lost most favorite rap-band... COOL!
