  1. Bummer on Winamp Shutting Down On December 20 · · Score: 1

I interviewed for a job with the winamp team several months ago - they had some pretty big plans for it. It's a shame that they didn't get them implemented.

  9. Dump DSL? Blow it out your ass! on Dump Broadband, Dig Out Your Modem! · · Score: 1

Back when I was a wee hacker, I had static addresses from my isp so that I could host my own domain. It was pretty damn sweet to get my email from my own server. Then I got DSL when it first came out in my area and like any self-respecting sysadmin, I got a subnet as well for my growing farm of boxen. Moral of the story: You'll get my Cisco 675 when you pry my cold, dead fingers off of it. I hang out at a friends place once in a while and he only has 56k. I finally had to stop ssh'ing in to check my mail when I was there because it's so DAMN slow.
I said it when I first got my DSL way back when and i'll say it again; I will NEVER go back to dialup by choice. ever.

RMS is just a big ol' fat hippy huh? Who else would give a patchwork blanket for an award? Now I dont have anything against hippys or blankets. In fact, I find the whole thing rather amusing.
Is there some sort of story behind the blanket? Why give a blanket as an award? Just seems kinda odd to me.

Opinions are one thing, but you are bitching.

  15. Steve Ballmer on Microsoft to Split into Four Groups? · · Score: 1

Why is it that EVERY picture of steve balmer looks as though it was designed to make him look like a blithering idiot? You'd think they would want to project an image of .... i dont know... something besides the 'Duuuh Yup! I'm the pres.' image that all of the pictures i've seen of him make him look like.

I'm constantly amazed that I live in a society in which a company like that can take control of so much of the worlds business and finance.

  16. MacOS emulation? on LinuxPPC at MacWorld · · Score: 1

"In the coming months, Haas said, LinuxPPC hopes to add numerous functions to make the OS more usable. These include a sleep function, as well as an emulation mode for running the Mac OS from within LinuxPPC. These changes will be contributed to the Linux development effort for possible inclusion in the next version of the Linux kernel."

Now THAT would make me switch over completely.
