Well, I do know that if you use the word "biro" to refer to a generic ballpoint pen, Bic's lawyers will come down on you like a ton of bricks, in spite of the fact that "biro" is, in the UK, generally taken to mean "any ballpoint pen" and not just "crappy plastic thing which hurts your fingers and leaks all over your shirt".
OTOH, McDonalds once tried to prevent a Scots couple from running a sandwich bar of the same name. Since the owners were called McDonald, the judge, in a rare attack of common sense, told the Golden Arches brigade to go piss up a rope.
If people can't take criticism and hostility they shouldn't be online. In fact, they shouldn't be engaging in any sort of social encounters. This is a part of life.
