Change with the times! Hollywood must find a way to use technology to make money. Otherwise, they will spend more than ever lost on piracy try to protect their outdated business models. Same for the music industry... Digital formats are here to stay, so find a way to alter the model and keep on making your money!
I guess the problem with the above suggestion is that there are a few people at the top that may lose a fraction of their power... Too bad they are will to risk millions, and piss of the customer base over a pride issue...
Free trade? Is an economy that regulates utilities, media, and television, along with preventing monopolies truely a "free market economy"? That is a perception the upper 5% want us all to believe...
What and actually protect American jobs? Are you nuts? How are corporations and the richest 5% of the US population supposed to get even richer with such ideas*...
*note the sarcasm...
China is a big opportunity for the wealthy. Its the middle and lower classes that should fear things like this... Sure, open it all up, and wait for the huge sucking sound that used to be our economy...
Require the installation of a "personal firewall" when the users sign up for an account. Hell, everything else and the kitchen sink was on that CD when I signed up for Comcast... This would probably cut 99% of the problems out. If not a software based solution, how about a hardware based one? How hard would it be to put a firewall in the router they charge 4.95/m to use? Hell, tech support could configure it for grandma, grandpa, mom, dad,...
But I guess it is easier to just shut them off, and then charge a reconnection fee... eh?
Personal Responsibility! These kinds of stories should be moot. Bottom line, no one forces kids to play these games. Typically a kid gets the game from their parents or money provided by their parents. If this is not the case, the parents still have the right/obligation to NOT allow their kids to play the "violent" games. Parents, stop asking the government to raise your children and do it your damn selves!
Attention all users planning on using the forced upgrade! You will definetly see problems once the devil spawn code is updated. You WILL lose data, your apps will stop running, and your dog will probably die. Rebooting 1000x's is the recommended solution to any and all issues encountered. Thanks for choosing Micro$oft. We hate each and everyone one of you...
Actually, this is VERY IMPORTANT! I think the big advantage(s) of "open sourcing" java will be seen when things such as the mess with the logging API's and the use of the assert keyword are avoided.
It is still a mystery to me why Sun developed their own logging API's when LOG4J was widely used and accepted.
Hopefully a more open approach to Java would help projects that are housed at Jakarta and SourceForge actually make it into the JDK instead of sticking us with inferior rewrites.
The logging API is just one example. Imagine if the JUNIT implementation of assert was used, and if SWT could be combined with Swing/AWT to create better/superior user interfaces. I think Java could grow in leaps and bounds with an open approach.
Another good example of this would be the JDOM project. How long has it sat in the JCP? While in the meantime Sun implemented their own INFERIOR XML libraries.
The JCP is too political, and needs to modified/done away with. Let the people decide the direction of JAVA!
Actually I would argue that Technology is neutral. It is the perceptions surrounding technology that create stress... Either that or the idiot project managers that surround technology... or perhaps the annoying clients that surround technology... hmm.. or maybe its...

Best of luck!
And useless posts take up bandwidth... hehehe...
