Actually, you can change employers under the H1B visa. The transfer takes around 90 days.

  2. What the consumer really wants... on What the Linux Community Needs to Grok · · Score: 1

Consumers want computers that work like the TV and the telephone. i.e. Absolutely no technical knowledge required. Preferrably, computers should be provided free by the phone company as well. This is the future.

Programmers want an open flexible OS that is cheap- Linux is perfect.

The reason Linux advocates are so paranoid is that they are scared of Microsoft breaking their OS and deceiving the market for another decade. Don't worry- it's not going to happen. Phone companies, Intel, AOL, IBM, SAP and every other industry giant will ensure that Linux succeeds.

The article at news.com says: "Embedix is available as a free download, the software may not be resold". How does this work with the GPL? I thought the GPL forced vendors to pass on full rights to others.

Also, does anyone know the pricing for royalties/licensing?

  4. Re:RIP linux on Free Solaris 8 · · Score: 1

The internet has started a renaissance in the software industry. Programmers can get industrial strength tools like Linux for free. Every useful application is being developed for the internet. If you're starting a company now why would you spend money on an OS or development tools? Save your money for hardware and bandwidth.

As for users, they don't care what the server is running. They want their client to work when they press a button. In five years, when we're all surfing the internet through our wristwatches, MS will be a forgotten $10bn company. And Sun will be selling Linux servers with 4096 processors.
