A EULA is an End User License Agreement. Typically these are not sent out with internal software apps in companies that I have seen. Now in order for me to be considered as part of the single legal entity of a corporation I have to have some kind of employment agreement. I can't see this as being a prefferable condition for companies. It just wouldn't look good on the books not to mention all the people going out saying they represent Microsoft b/c they paid to be in the club. Maybe its possible but I don't think it is desirable for a company to want to operate like this. I for one would sell any shares I had in them.

When Intel started making chipsets for mother boards how many chipset companies went out of business or left that market? Unless you are talking about non Intel processors how many boards do you see with non Intel chipsets? Don't count super 7 boards even if they can run an Intel processor because they are really built for Amd chips. I'm sure they planned on doing this with video cards as well. Unfortunately for them competition in this arena was a bit more fierce than the motherboard chipset arena. Also they have had a big brother named FTC take a greater notice of them. Last thing you want to do at this point is be seen forcing competition out of another area. So what do you do? Exactly what they did. Play a low profile (in the graphics area) after a while, and then claim to get out of the business. Siting fast paced competition as the reason. At least they are smarter than Bill at this game.

Below is a spam I received last week. Unfortunately I fell for the trick. At the end of the message is a link that says click here to remove or some other removal directive. Sending the mail only resulted in more spam from someone else matching the same format. What happened in reality is that I just verified my address as being an active account. I don't think I have received after I sent an e-mail to the isp of one of the messages requesting the users information so that I could persue legal action. I hope this helps somebody else.

  7. Missing the point. on Java-Clone Announced · · Score: 1

People here are missing the point. Microsoft is trying to weaken Java. What if all of a sudden all these java programmers who mainly use java in Windows convert to the proprietary version? Now these programs that could run on multiple platforms are tied back into windows. Not every java programmer is going to go use this proprietary version but they don't need them all. They only need a significant portion of them to undermine the strength and popularity of a competing standard. Big Bill doesn't like people to use anything but his stuff. Remember that because once you start to walk down the path of the darkside its nearly impossible to get out.

  8. Another interpreted language from MS? on Preliminary Ruling in Sun/Microsoft Case · · Score: 1

A while back we saw news of MS writing something called COOL (C Object Oriented Language I think). It was there clean room project to mimic Java. They will probably make it pretty similar to Java but jut incompatible enough that the 2 won't work well together and developers will go to one or the other. I'm sure that this is there goal but does the world really need another proprietary interpreted language from MS? Visual Basic and Visual FoxPro aren't enough? I'm sure they aren't going to worry about cross platform capability because they only really care about the intel platform. Yes they have Alpha stuff but that is a comparatively small market. I believe that VB runs on alphas as well. It seems to me that they are going to end up spending a lot of money to subvert Java and then once its done you won't here about these COOL programmers anymore.

  12. Spoiled on VB on Visual Basic book author gives up the language · · Score: 1

Admittedly VBs gui layout tools spoiled me. I never seen something so nice. Unfortunately it follows the pattern of being pretty up front and ugly later. Ever try to code resize events to make your controls grow move easily? It isn't pretty. Layout managers are much nicer for this. It takes a bit more to understand up front but in the long run its more worth it.
I've been learning C++ for the past few months and it was an eye opener as to what a real language is. I've also toyed with Java and find that to be just as interesting. Both offer more than VB can but VB is still nice to go back and do a quick and dirty.
I used to maintain a VB4 app that suffered tremendously from the language's lack of inheritance. Until VB supports such a basic thing as inheritance it will never be more than dulled down hybrid C and C++ features. Not that that doesn't have its uses occasionally.

I live in Cincinnati OH. and about 1 1/2 years ago a woman named Sandra Hacker (her real name) had her kids taken away from her. The reason? I don't know if the story went national or anything but someone with access to a newspaper archive could verify the story. It was printed in the Cincinnati Post and Cincinnati Enquirer.
