But government programs/systems are the easiest ones to work around. Just think about it, they have to be politically correct and they exist to "serve the people". Anytime the government starts hanging carrots out there, people find more manipulative and corrupt ways to get that carrot. The more government run operations there are shuffling around money, the more likely there are going to people in positions of power shuffling those funds to themselves and their friends, negating the purpose the program/system was put in place.
I live in the US and, though community service wasn't required in my area to graduate high school, believe it should be mandatory for troublemakers.
Mandatory community service for troublemakers isn't really community service anymore. In Minnesota we call that sentence-to-serve, which means you are working off a fine or jail-time for being a "troublemaker". This goes for both minors and adults. So in essence, we would be treating all citizens as criminals/lawbreakers.
I don't really see anyone has really grasped this the way I understand it. It looks like you would get a $4k tax credit for a hundred hours worth of "community service" work, which breaks down to $40/hour (I am awesome at math;) ). Sounds like it would be way to easy to game this system, especially if you know anyone that works for a non-profit that can just sign a document saying you put in the time.
We also aren't talking about raising a family, if you can't afford to have a kid, you shouldn't have had a kid. Adoption would have been a good option, if you had a kid and do not have the money, time, or knowledge to raise that kid.
We aren't talking about private schooling here, and working at the Walmart you would be able to afford to live there. It was just built a few years ago and they are still hiring and I know many that work there doing just fine, living within their means and enjoying themselves.
I have to agree that we are wasting our children as a resource. I graduated from HS in 2004, but didn't really learn anything useful outside of math and science since 5th grade. Children and their parents need to have more options available earlier in life and start their vocational studies much earlier. This general purpose public education until you are 16 when you can drop out or 18 when you graduate is not working. I should have had the option to leave the public school system to take the IT classes I took at 18 and 19 at around 13 or 14.
Its not the US governments job to distribute wealth. We work on the notion of "survival of the fittest" not "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need."
You seem to forget that anyone that is in a poor area with horrible schools, always has the right to get out of there and move somewhere that it is better. I grew up in a very small town with a graduating class of less than 90 people. You can get a 2 bedroom apartment there for less than $400/month. Anyone can afford to live there and make better lives for themselves and their family.
Well since the psych community has labeled everything from liking to drive fast to smoking a mental illness, I suppose the numbers above could be accurate.
I have to admit, I did not take the mentally ill into account, but you can't honestly say more than 1% of the population is mentally ill. We all have the same access to the public school system, and as long as you aren't retarded, its not hard to do ok, if you can get C's, you can get into a trade school and make a descent living. The government is not there, and under any circumstances isn't going to be able to solve all of peoples' problems. Taking care of those who were born or happened into horrible situations is the place of charities and churches, not the government.
Do you know if there is something like this that includes Comcast or is Comcast a part of one of these?? I am asking because I am having some connection issues that I am trying to figure out, that they say doesn't exist.
Luckily, I made good choices early in life, so I don't have to decide between eating and paying rent. Those who are stuck in that position, probably did something to put themselves there. Life's tough, buy a helmet.
Privatize doesn't mean the government would decide where you social security benefits go, in fact, privatize is the exact opposite. You would save your money, and choose where to invest it for retirement yourself.
Yup, its the difference between what it says "Promote general welfare", and the government and many people who want it to solve their and everyone's problems take it as "Provide general welfare"
Yeah, that makes sense, because government subsidies force people to eat certain types of food. The difference between socialized health care and private health care is simple, you you want to be a citizen or a subject. Citizens have choices, subjects are forced to deal with mediocrity.
Are you telling me that you really believe the numbers that Cuba is providing WHO?? Or that Cuba's dictatorship would allow WHO representatives to stay in their country for an extended period of time to be able to compile this information?? I find it odd you are so willing to believe statistics put out by a communist dictator.
Yeah, it happens, and it sucks, but that's war. And I haven't seen any numbers (provide a link if you can) of how many civilians died as a result of US troops in Iraq. I am sure its less then Saddam had ordered be killed himself.
The real question is, do you want the government telling you what has to happen to your inheritance or do you want to be able to decide? If you don't want your kid growing up snobby with a silver spoon, give them a small inheritance or nothing at all, and donate the rest to charity, or give it to the government if you believe they are there to solve peoples problems.
Yeah, because the US military just goes around slaughtering innocents for fun. You have to be kidding me, our military is under almost just as much regulation as the police are inside our country. If they do do anything bad, they end up going to court for it and get kicked out.

Is it cool? Or just clever marketing? I suppose it can be seen both ways depending on who you are.

A liberal stop campaigning?? Both of Clinton's terms as president were a non-stop campaign. He still hasn't stopped.
This is the first installment of the government run media machine and how they will humor your requests http://www.change.gov/page/s/yourvision
How can you call yourself an atheist, but then recognize the existence of Satan?

Defense and roads, that's all I would like them to be collected and used for.

I am lacking comprehension?? You are the one trying to convince people the government exists to take care of people.

That would be horrible, no accountability, and we would be left with empty suits and lofty meaningless feel-good speeches.
