Finally oracle 10g is as easy if not easier to administer then SQL server.
Make that 10g R2. The early 10g contained bugs that took the easiness away if you hit them -- like DB Console failing to start when your IP has changed or for whatever other reason. No luck trying to fallback to OEM because they moved some functionality to the DB Console exclusively. Back to the command line!

I have used both MSDN (admittedly only for VBA) and the JDK docs, and the JDK docs are vastly superior. MSDN tends to only document the common cases, and ignore corner cases and limitations.
I am developing a custom app for a top-three pharmaceutical company and they were very pleased to learn that we can deploy using Java Web Start. Its all Swing btw.
