  1. Re:Lucas figures it out! on Star Wars EP1 On DVD Confirmed By Lucas · · Score: 1

I think that the reason why George Lucas has decided to do a DVD version of Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace is simple: there are now enough DVD players and DVD-ROM drives out there to justify the sales that can recoup the investment necessary to master this movie onto DVD (and make a nice, handsome profit).

Are you sure the reason isn't this...
It's two weeks after the video launch and everyone has already bought a VHS copy, except CmdrTaco, and he wants to screw everyone over yet again?

I expect DVD sales of TPM to be at least 1 to 2 million copies in a matter of days.

And I expect most everyone now ends up owning two copies of the damn movie.

Does anyone else think it's just a tad strange that DVD version was announced only a couple of weeks AFTER the VHS version. It's not like they thought "hey, we didn't sell very many videos, maybe they were serious about the whole DVD thing".

Don't get me wrong... I loved the movie and I'm going to get the DVD but Lucas knows exactly what he's doing and he's playing us all.

Picture this if you will... CEO Steve Ballmer sitting at his PC repeatedly loading the CNN poll and choosing "Yes" to the question "Do you trust Microsoft security?" When suddenly... "BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH". What makes you feel the most secure? "... a staff of 15 people..." or an entire open source community. "...interacting with users and rival vendors to detect software breaches and bugs,.." If you ask me, that's going to be one very busy group of people! This one paragraph however, sums it all up perfectly. "A conference attendee said that Microsoft officials were making all the right statements pertaining to security, but it remains to be seen whether the company can live up to its commitment." The M$ security site is pretty funny, I belive the phrase "best interests of consumers or the industry" was used. I mean who would have thought?

If you ask the courts and Netscape, Microsoft are very aware of the concept of backdoors and have a tendancy to use them from time to time. I've got a picture in my head of Steve Ballmer getting stuck in a cat flap.
