For education, it will always make sense.
Managing 40 full blown workstations in each class room, is a total nightmare.
Central login server is great, and Ubuntu as a killer solution here.
I totally agree with TheDarkener, Canonical should go there. It's a huge global market (especially in developed countries), and a good business model/pricing will extremely successful.
Hope they'll do it (or someone else).
