  1. Re:The mass media on Hackers · · Score: 1

The unfortunate thing is that, no matter how much it appears in the media, or from word-of-mouth, to non-techies, a hacker is a hacker. So to non-techies, hackers are the generally accepted form of the word. Techies know that the definition of hacker used by the media is generally wrong. I think that's starting to change though. That's not really a profound statement, but the media isn't who we should be directing our arguments to. The media happens to the easiest way to inform people, but if people can truly understand the differece through other means, hopefully they would ignore the media's depiction of hackers or form their own opinions of hackers, or even stick it to the media themselves. A techie flaming people about the difference isn't really productive, since non-techies may consider them a hacker defending themselves. But for a non-techie to do it would be a big step...

  3. Re:Cost effectiveness on 38-Inch LCD Panels · · Score: 1

In response to the cost-effectiveness, you have to consider the manufacturing differences (as fas as cost) for physically joining the LCD panels. Would it be cheaper to join 4 large panels into 1 or 16 small panels into one (of the same overall diagonal size)? I would assume the former; less joining, less cost.
I guess I should go and read the article, but did it mention how the singal is distributed to the panels? Are all the panels acting as individual screens, expecting to receive only a potion of the overall video signal (displaying only what it receives) or does it actually receive the same signal as all the others and display only what it is supposed to (based on it's position in the overall display)?
    off to read the article...

SOME of the tiles are awesome, but while browsing through the 2 most recent libraries, I noticed that there were 3 basic 'themes' or 'concepts', and ALL OF THE TILES were slight variations of those same 3 basic 'concepts'. Some were different colors, some had bigger shapes, some of the shapes had thicker outlines, but as far as I could tell there were really only a small handfull of original tiles. The unique ones were nice, but I don't need 25 of (nearly) the exact same tiles.
