Well if your users dont have the necessary JVM, bundle it in the installation program.

And you should definetly require Java2.
If you guys go through the trouble of writing a windows executable why not go through the trouble of having Install Shield or a similar program detect if you have Java2 installed? If not, install the JRE. If your worried about performance versus java 1.1 install Hotspot on top of 1.2.2.

If your installing to a Linux client you could also check for available JRE's the same way Star Office 5.1 does. Then have the installer create a script to launch the app (maybe even put a nice little kdelink to it if that's what they use).

But whatever you do, move your GUI's up to Swing. Regardless of Swing's memory footprint(which isn't really a problem IMHO), AWT alone leaves a lot to be desired.

So a Java program doesnt work?, So what, I could write a c++ or VB program that blows up too.
The point is there are crappy developers writing in every langauage.
Just because i have several c++ applications blow up on me, doesnt mean the language sucks.
The same holds true for Java Applications.

Did you read my whole comment? no shit you could just make copies, Im talking about using "battle.net" type servers for multi-player internet based gaming. you have to got through blizzard to play over the internet.

If someone was to reverse-engineer blizzard's protocol for diablo2 or starcraft it would be so that they could pirate the games and start there own battle.net servers.
If you want to play on battle.net you need an ID# so you need to buy the game. You would get kicked off the severs if you are sharing the ID# with your friends
There is nothing wrong with Blizzard wanting to make money on their games.
Open source is cool for alot of things, but come on, not all developer were born with silver spoons in their mouths. Some of us have families to feed.

Don't get me wrong I think Sun's current stance is not in the best interest of the technology, but its not really that big of a deal considering that IBM has a much better implementation of Java anyways. They have a better IDE and their JDK1.1.8 rocks.

If you were really planning on coming up with some cool new web techlogy that is better than Java or ActiveX(As if those are solely web technologies or even like technologies for that matter) then you could learn alot by studying them insteading shooting your mouth off.

I'm actually hoping you do write some code for this reason: A dog can dig and find a morsel of corn in a pile of shit, there is a good chance that if you coded for ten years another monkey could find something in it not totally worthless.
Just change the name to KornInShitBizkit.
