  2. Tru64 is $$$$ on Tru64 UNIX for Hobbyists: $99 · · Score: 1

    All,

For those who bash this idea. Take a second or two and think about it. Tru64 skills are thin on the ground as it is. With the upcoming WildFire (not official yet ?) the skills will be truly in demand. If you have an Alpha Box I would recommend it. Until Linux gets proper clustering capabilities, it is the commercial UNIXs that will rule the High End.

Free UNIXs are fine for small Webservers, fileservers and all that. But it hasn't got the capabilities of the Big Iron yet.

Tru64 is fine if you set it up properly, but if not it crashes quite regularly. Our 8400s do anyway.

Big boys not on Alpha ... bah !

We manage shitloads of data running on Oracle 7.3.3, 7.3.4 and 8i all on DEC/Compaq machines.

Runs fine. I second the call to bring AdvFS and LSM to Linux. Vinum (for FreeBSD) is good, but AdvFS is the real deal.

For a supposedly Alpha release it is working really well. I am typing this on it. There are a couple of bugs, but I am using it instead of Navigator as my default browser. Once the bugs are worked out it is going to be great.

The poster seems to see no hypocrisy in the actions of his own government, apologies if you are not from the US.

He says that the Chinese government are harassing citizens of other countries. Now I am not sure about you, but I would rather be flooded with ICMP messages than Cluster bombs (Yes they did use them in Serbia as well as Vietnam among others).

The US feels that if they dont agree with an external country's policies, they are free to bomb the country into the ground, see Vietnam, Iraq, Serbia. Now you may feel that Iraq and Serbia are run by governments of questionable nature. But what the hell did Vietnam do to deserve the bombardment that it got ?????

On the other hand the citizens of the US are allegedly protected by all their ammendments. One day a country will respond and the US just *might * rethink their attitude to international relations.

A few ppl have picked up on this already. But believe it or not the Chinese government is not
stupid. If they wanted to knock these sites out, a couple of hundred dollars to some US script kiddies would have solved the problem.

mmmm an attack from the public security ministry, don't think so. I think the only ppl commiting any crimes are the Journalists, either they are incompetent in the field (not suprising) or they did not do their research.

    Bruce,

I happen to agree, crashing someones system is well out of order. By order of numbers, the influence that Slashdot readers could pull would be more than enough to scare any company. 75 000 people saying "I will influence as many people as I can not to buy your software", is enough to scare any company. In the end all it took was a link to their site.
