1. Re:Free Java Performance Book on Java Native Compilation Examined · · Score: 1

I've just finished reading this book (hardcopy) and it's well worth a read if you are worried about the performance of your apps, lots of interesting hints and tips.

The two appendices (The Truth about Garbage Collection and The Hotspot VM) in particular are very useful reading.

Actually I don't think the Be Kernel is written in C++ at all, quite the contrary ... from what I've gathered it looks like C, C, C!!

Admittedly the GUI stuff is all C++ but you can't have everything :)

  3. Poor Demon on UK's Demon Settles Usenet Libel Case · · Score: 1

This really sucks, I don't use Demon anymore but I did and I hate seeing this happen to them. Again our Government spouts on about pushing the UK full steam into e-something_or_other and lets things like this happen. Clueless.

Lets hope the news of a new Bill of Rights changes this, the last thing we want is to have a legal system similar to the US where people seem to sue for someone looking in their general direction.

1 1/2 years? Maybe there's a little bit more to it than I originally thought.
The Single Instance Store recognizes that there's duplication, coalesces the extra copies and stores the bits once instead of several times
They already have soft links don't they ? in the form of shortcuts, so why are they bothering with this .. that they are passing it off as innovative really sucks ..
