"FireWire" is a buzz-word amongst the posters on this forum but they fail to see that it is nothing but a physical transport for protocols just like Ethernet is for network protocols.
The currently approved SCSI standard (SCSI-3) is currently capabable of using four different physical transports including the old parallell interface and FireWire IEEE-1394. Check out the T10 homepage for further information.
