"Not being a Notes user, I don't know what the name of the Notes.exe is. I'm curious. If it's ALSO "lotus.exe" then we'd have a complete explanation."
The.exe is nnotes.exe or notes.exe. Unless you're talking about the server, which is nserver.exe.
(The server, by the way, which offers a real alternative to M$ exchange. No, you don't have to use the Notes client to use the Domino server. A web browser or MS Outlook are viable alternatives, and I *think* you could even make it work with Eudora.)
I hear that IBM is planning a product for next year that will answer all the critics of the "bloatware" supposedly released by Lotus.
Kind of reminds me of that old Christian canard known as Pascal's wager.
Sure, all this climate change stuff may be nonsense, but are you willing to bet the house on that assumption?
It's a good thing that this is being debated; the vast majority of scientists do follow scientific principle and will adjust their hypotheses based on empirical evidence.
But somehow, the idea that what happens in another country has nothing to do with us doesn't really strike me as legitimate. After all, the peat fires in Indonesia are the result of massive logging that, in part, goes toward filling our "need" for old-growth wood. And massive coal burning in China powers the factories that puts the goods on the shelves at Wal-Mart.
There's nothing wrong with questioning Conventianal Wisdom. There's everything wrong with ducking Responsibility.
"I defy you to name a single current band that has the power and creativity of The Who in their heydey."
I think Weezer is making a run at that "power and creativity" crown. But you're right, they're few and far between (of course, that could be age talking!).
Ummm, does anyone else see this as window dressing? I mean, look, we're seeing layoffs in the private sector of loads of experienced techies.
Why do we need a bill to encourage government agencies to hire these people? Certainly if there's a need for tech folks some of these unemployed techies will take a job, any job, in their field.
Sure, not all folks are willing to work for government-sector wages, but this bill doesn't even address that.
Furthermore, with all the overseas outsourcing that U.S. companies are using more and more, the government may be the ONLY employer hiring techies in a lot of communities.
I think the evidence is pretty clear that they DO visit music conferences. Come down to Austin in March and you'll see the musicians lining up at the city limits to get into SXSW.
It is really obvious from the crashing and burning that we've seen in the past few months that in depth knowledge about a technology does not a success make.
If people disrespect younger workers, it is because the vast majority of younger workers have proven time and time again that they are full of themselves and utterly devoid of common sense.
"after all, we are mostly a hardware company"
Not true. IBM's biggest revenue generator these days is services.
Just to clear things up.

Lotus Domino 6 on Linux.
iNotes Web Access OR Outlook clients on the workstation. Maybe the Notes 6 client for people who know how to use *real* groupware.
Easy stuff.

All of these problems are fixed in Notes 6. Just an FYI.

Try working in your local replica instead of working on the server thru a 24k connection and you'll see why you're using Notes the wrong way.
As someone mentioned earlier, there already is a groupware product for Linux. It's called Lotus Domino.

Take a look at http://www.epa.gov I've heard it runs on Lotus Domino, believe it or not!
