I can't believe an Australian is so concerned about the oppressive American government. You may be right, but I think you've got a little work to do on the home front.

When much of what happens in America sets the standards for other countries, why shouldn't I be concerned?? I'll admit, the Australian government has a long long way to go, but then we could say the same about them all. EVERYONE should be concerned about something that could spread to effect us all.

They were their personal PC's NOT company donated. They do NOT use PC's in the course of their daily work. The US courts issued a legal search warrant for the PC's to be taken/examined. (Wrong as hell IMHO)
I think this is setting a scary precedent. If it can happen over there in 'septic tank land' (America) then it could conceivable happen here in Australia.
I have already been on the wrong end of my ex-employer reading my e-mail coming into my work PC, and while I can recognise their right to do so, I still don't like it. If it becomes so that even what I say and do on my private personal PC is open to scrutiny to my employer because they have 'suspicions' then I WILL start running something like PGPdisk or similar.
People have refered to these type of tactics as "Orwelian", "Facist", "Nazi", "Big Brother", etc.. Believe it folks. If we don't step on it now it will get to the point where joe citizen has no rights left.
Why?
Because we are slowly letting business and government take them away and erode our sense of self.
Will it get to the point that having an opinion that differs from your employer/government will allow a seizure of assets 'suspected' of being used to espouse your beliefs? Oh...hang on....THATS WHATS HAPPENED!! Scary Scary stuff...
What ever happened to "America - Land of the Free"...sounds more like land of the paranoid and oppressed to me. Recently I've been reading about Kevin Mitnick's mistreatment at the hands of federal authorities and the (so called) 'American Legal System'. I've been reading about the MPAA and their abuse of people also using the 'American Legal System'. Just to mention two highly visual cases. The legal system over there looks like it is more and more being used to stamp all over the rights of the very people they're supposed to protect.
