We just had a wonderful time trying to track down an email issue with Sympatico (massive net up here in Canada, I think it is the @home base here). You have to wonder if this is the Corporate machine trying to squish the little ISP into oblivion. If you doubt it, look at the history of the Carnegies and the Rockfella robber barons of the US expansion.
Your founding fathers are spinning in their graves. As the baby boomers shiver in terror of outraged youth, the civil liberties that millions of your parents brothers, grandfathers et al died to protect. The right to privacy will die under the pressure of the corporate bottom line. The entire fabric and design of the United States was built to prevent monopoly and trusts, because concentrations of power have always led to abuse. If you do not fight against these abuses with every fiber of your being, your children will have to do it with guns and bombs, and they will hold your memory in contempt for having forced them to that end.
Gotta wonder, a couple of these operating in tandem would give you a great depth perception, visual coverage of movement... wonder if it would make for more accurate smart bombs and ABM devices... Ronny Raygun Rules!
The real danger is that these punks (or punk, co ordinated attacks could be one guppy with a pile o passwords and a little time on their hands) are forcing the PTB to take action. With or without government conspiracy the PTB will march forth with constricting and stiltifying regulations that will hinder and shackle the rest of us, and not being able to get online or search Yahoo will make Joe newbie their ally in doing so. Sayyyy... when did that Mitnick feller get sprung;-)
Hey wait a minute, what about Steve Jackson and the cyberpunk BBS. Did not the crossdresser's minions seize the hardware under the auspices of national security?
Austria is forming a coalition government with a right wing looney-type neo nazi bunch. Althought the main wingnut has agreed to stay out of office, the rest of the world is pretty freaked out about it. Hitler was 'democratically elected' in one of the most democratic states in the world... the weak and indicisive Wiemer Republic. Even though neo nazi facist types have met ever vigilant opposition whenever they have gathered, the history of the "common front" in providing fringe groups with public legitimacy is terrifying to those who have studied history.
Just one moment there ya foul mouthed pilgrim... to enter court is to surrender yourself to the whims of a trial court judge. No one who has had anything to do with "the legal system" would be so foolish as to describe it as a "justice system". Sure, it is often a lovely ballet, with reasoned arguements and studious points of law...if you have deep pockets. For most it is a place to be avoided at all costs... or some incompetitant loudmouth will walk away with your money with a shrug and a sigh. Tsk, it goes that way sometimes.
The simple concept is that if you "broadcast" material then someone can "extend the range" of your broadcast. As long as it is done at the same time as your broadcast, not copied and broadcast at a different time, and not modified, there should be no problem and indeed the networks should be tickled pink, the increase in the number of "impressions" should allow them to increase ad revenues.
