I have had some troubles with my Athlon System. This was a flawless system with a Soyo 6BA+ and a PII-350. I just swaped in the Athlon chip and motherboard. First of all my computer hangs once in awhile during the SCSI BIOS init. Not a linux prob. Next, Whenever I did large disk operations the SCSI bus kept getting reset and my speed droped from 20MB/s to 10MB/s. By changeing from 2.2.14 to 2.2.15 and using append='mem=128m' those problems are gone. However, when I do a large untar (unrar, unzip, take your pick) the system seems to be almost locked up. It reminds me of times in winbloze when you wrote to a: and you have to wait. I niced the process to 20 (instead of 0) and it still hogs the system. Just not as bad. Anyone else having these problems? It sounds like some of the problems may be fixed in the 2.4 kernels.
I waited to long for Aureal to come to their senses. I was tired of quake3 and mp3's not working correctly with my MX300. I am happy Aureal has released the drivers. However, using GPL'd drivers (ALSA) and my sblive value makes my life much better today and makes me sleep better:)
