I am an instructor that trains network certification courses. This is a common issue that employers have. They always think "What if I pay for my employee to attend training and they leave?" I then ask them "What if you do not train your employees and they stay?"
This is not to say that you always need to attend a training course to learn how a particular technology/appliance/application works. It is simply an accelerated way to learn how something works.
