  2. Robots killing mankind? Get outta town! on Robots vs. Humans And Other Security Issues · · Score: 1

    The idea that robots will kill off human civilization is not a new idea. Anyone who has seen the Matrix, Terminator, or Red Robot #C-63 knows that! Personally, I'm not worried about robots going crazy and killing people. Unless their software is designed by Microsoft...

  3. can grammatical errors can help an article? on Why Coding Is Insecure · · Score: 1
    Internet Explorer was no longer merely a Web browser, it was the launch point for most of the users Internet needs. Users could read your e-mail, check newsgroups, view videos, listen to music, and (believe it or not) browse the Web too.

    I think this error was put intentionally to make people feel more insecure... (The wording makes it sound like other users can read your e-mail)
    I normally do not care about little things like this, but I wonder if having the error has the effect of reinforcing the reader's concept that software is more insecure?

  5. Airflow within PC cases on Computers And The Noise They Make · · Score: 1

    I do not think that loudness in a computer should be a major issue in deciding whether to buy it or not. I think that PCs are being unfairly targeted for being noisy though. Granted Motorola processors require less cooling, but isn't the real problem caused by bad airflow within the case. Shouldn't case manufacturers be held responsible? I had problems with noise on my other PCs, but my new home-built PC barely makes a noise, and it has 3 fans! It purrs like a kitten, and it's because the case has many vents on both sides and the back, which allow for the airflow to be less restricted and therefore produce less horrible noise...

    So, the easy solution for any noise problems for your PC would be to get a better case, or to punch some little holes in your existing PC case to allow for better sound.

    Another problem might be the current condition of your cooling fans. Take the case off and clean/replace those fans. Remember, your computer can never be too cool. Your computer is a lot like a penguin, needing a cool environment. If I ever overclock mine, I'm moving it to a freezer room! =)

  6. /. != $$ on How Much Is A Web Site Worth? · · Score: 1

    Slashdot is priceless! The revenue and income it makes should not even be a factor. The site is a haven of computer nerds, and no monetary value can match the spirit that causes millions of geeks to check out the news that is really important in the world. In my mind the sheer signifigance of slashdot is cause for it to hold out for at least a million... at the very least!

  7. Lawnmower Man on Putting Your Brain into A Computer · · Score: 1

    This reminds me of the Lawnmower man, and about brain hackers of the future... perhaps there will be cyber-police-brains to capture the cyber-villians.

    One cool thing would be that we might just be able to read each others minds if we all had brains on the computer. I would also like to delete certain memories and download some fictional ones. Yeah, that's the ticket! -Kenneth Ingle

  8. A possible solution to the AOL infection on AOL's Upgrade of Death · · Score: 1
    AOL has released version 5.0, and surprise suprise, they still haven't been able to produce quality software. AOL is contaminating the internet, spreading like the plague across America.

    Because of the bugs in the software, the overwriting and corrupting of system files, and the sudden control it has over internet connections, I feel something should be done:
    Call McAfee, call Norton, call all the anti-virus software makers and tell them to add AOL v5.0 as a virus!
