I must say also that the .NET framework and Visual Studio are both very impressive products. I wish Java's VM had more languages and an official IDE (maybe they should buy and improve Eclipse).

I haven't ever used Suse, as I've never had the desire. Ubuntu floats my boat just fine, and I'll be trying out Opensolaris pretty soon. All you people saying we shouldn't even talk about Novell can stop talking in this thread, and easily not even read the article. This is an open forum. And C# is technically a good language.

Exactly. I have very few problems with Sun, and I don't HATE Microsoft like so many people do. Making money is not evil. I wouldn't want to see the MySQL project thrash Sun. Although I doubt it will: Most companies I've heard speak about their software support DEMAND professional support they can call whenever they have a problem. Sun provides that.

Not every computer scientist actually does scientic research on computation and data sets, many of them program. They are scientists ACTING as technicians or engineers, if you are familiar with the Scientist-Engineer-Technician hierarchy and its meaning.

In that, medical doctors are scientists, trained in the medical sciences, which act as technicians on the human body.

So you're saying: This is a roundabout way of making sure fly-by-night dealers don't make a quick buck. That way, only established dealers willing and able to sell at MAP (and who can sell support and accessories) will be selling a product. Regardless of intention, and while manufacturers have rights to sell to whomever they want, this is basically job protection for legit dealers and milking a minimum amount of money from consumers.

Same as you, I would like to see a response to this. I personally have always used MySQL being a younger person with personal projects and a love for open source. I've never heard BAD things about PgSQL, though, and I like the licensing better. I'd definitely like to learn how to use it.
