    Good job of noting the fact that the FCC, senate committees, FTC, etc. are far more important than the president's opinion.

    I'd also like to add that it doesn't particularly matter WHAT the candidates think about the technological industry, but the fact that they think about it. Or at least that their aides think about it and make a point to stick it on the platform.

    The president has no legislative power of his own, and therefore would have a tough time passing some laws restricting/helping technological growth. However, he has great influence over the legislative process AND press coverage whenever he wants it, basically. This allows him to put issues on the table, and as we can see from all the info that the candidates have been spewing forth we can tell that the role of technology is important to them all.

    So if you really want to make a difference concerning geek issues, write to your local congressman. Or write an influential congressman and pretend they're local. Starting at the top and working down is less efficient.
