Redmine is a free open source project. It can be very difficult to get up an running.
37Signal has a awesome product line to check out. It's all hosted, so no setup is required. http://37signals.com/
Put Drupal or Joomla up there. They're a full blown content management system that are simple to use. You can start with basically nothing up there, and if you decide you want to do something later, you can grow it as needed. I like Drupal, but Joomla is supposedly a little easier.
Netbeans is free and easy to install and works great. It supports multiple languages. Great online community e.g. support, documentation, tutorials, etc. It freakin' works.
Everything about getting Eclipse up and running sucks. Installation, getting plugins, documentation, etc. If you can get Eclipse up and running it's pretty good, but I still like Netbeans better.
I have no experience with Oracle. I'm relatively new to world of open-source software. I love Netbeans and MySQL. I do worry about these two awesome products, specifically MySQL. What good is a free, open-source database to Oracle, of all companies? I worry that developement of MySQL and Netebeans will grind to a halt. I hope not. Netbeans has really become awesome in the last few years. I love VirtualBox, too, but I'm sure Oracle could benefit from it. I really hope they don't start charging for these products.
Read Code Complete. Then practice the principles outlined in it everyday on every project, and you will no longer be a hacker.
