  1. I'd rather build my own on Is There A Market For A Voice Controlled MP3 Car Stereo? · · Score: 1

I'd rather like to see the components (motherboard, case, connectors, etc.) become cheaply available, then I'd build my own box with Linux of course. I'd even settle for an ugly black metal thing that I could mount in the trunk, as long as I could customize it.

  2. Reading online 'mindless,' 'isolating,' etc. etc. on Library Of Congress Will Not Digitize Books · · Score: 1

'Myopic' is my answer to Mr. Librarian. Digitizing data is about having options, the option to read on an airplane, the option to have it read to me via speech synthesis, the option to snip and recombine into a derived work. IMHO, not allowing me to choose how I want to use a work is the extreme of 'arrogance'. - Thomas

  3. Re:The wild, wild west ... on Open Defensive Patents? · · Score: 1

The problem with convincing existing companies is that there are so many others out there convincing them that taking advantage of the current system is the way to go. Witness these books (all published in the 1990's by the way): Fat Hogs and Dead Dogs: How to use Ideas, Inventions and Patents to win the war for your markets and profits. ISBN 187924018 From Patent to Profit. ISBN 0966045505 Technology Licensing: Corporate Strategies for Maximizing Value. ISBN 0471130818 This is the current vogue of corporate thinking. The 1990's can be thought of the decade that defined intellectual property as a marketing weapon, instead of a community or public asset.
