Does this mean that depicting or writing about anything illegal will now be made illegal since it might motivate you to commit these crimes yourself? And will that mean the depicting things or writing about them also will be illegal since the content of today's movies and book will make writing, drawing and movie making the most common crime on the planet? Oh, will it be legal to say the words representing criminal acts since it might produce images in the listener's mind that might be illegal and could possibly motivate him to break the law?
(Dang, I liked "Gone in 60 seconds")
A system like this is already in place in Sweden. Here the movie distributors has gone out and sued all the companies that sell non zone 2 DVD's. I study Japanese and a lot of training I got from watching Japanese DVD's This is no longer possible. It will be hard being of non-Swedish origin in Sweden from now on, no more foreign movies. I wonder how much longer I will be allowed to read books and magazines that are printed in foreign country's. Or watch web pages with non-Swedish content for that matter.
My bet is that Apple really did this to give some more power to the whole idea of software patents. (including there own) If the major players in the software industry abide to it it must be correct! Right?
Titanium blades with steel edge! I could have used one of these in Traveler(tm)(May it rest in peace).http://www.arizonacustomknives.com/thomas-warren.htm Sorry about the double posts (It was not my fault, it was my brain!)
TRUE! My first "home computer" was a Z80 and I loved it! Some times I take it up from the basement just to boot it up and marvel at the picture quality on my new TV, you eyes hardly hurt at all!:-)
I started with assembler and I think that is the way to go. Get them a plain DOS machine (or a PDP like I started on:-)) and dos debug. To many programmers today don't have a clue how computers work and can hardly tell a bit from a byte. When you start out with programming the first and most exciting state is exploration, not the building of useful software. If you give your kids VB they might produce some runable software on the first day but they will not have a clue what they have really done, and then the time spent will wasted. And if they don't get mesmerized by assembler and refuse to go to bed, they probably should stick to playing games.
First of: This player will not fit in a standard car stereo slot, therefor it is not a car stereo but a 12V PC. I can build one of those for under $600. Second: Why is this post on/.? It is trageted advertizing trying to slander empeg and sell a "better" and "much cheaper" unit. Will I be allowed to post an advertizment for my company explaining how my competitors charge way too much for there service?
Same thing there, they hacked lilo sold it and never released the source changes. I would not be surpriced if the new "free" system uses loadlin to launch.
I was looking forward to a new killer Amiga, not some lame *ss linux add-on. The QXN track was the one that looked the best so far. They should just give the Amiga name to BeOS, they are the most Amiga like OS out there right now. (Altho BeOS have lost there way lately)
Ever heard of Jeff Minter? He is the guy who wrote "attack of the mutant lamas" and other killer apps for the Atari and Amiga. This guy had spray painted his keyboard in psycedelic colors, noway to se the key markings! His saying was "If you don't know where the keys are, you shouldn't code.";-)
My guess is that they have put a layer in the CD that gives read errors. The error correction in the CD player will make sure you can't hear (too much, just some dist) of these errors but since the ripping is done before the correction process you will get clicks in you rip. I have an old SimpleMinds CD that is unrippable (due to constant clicks) but work in CD player. The name of the protection scheme even suggest this kind of protection. This system would be uncrackable (The CD is borderline quality, how do you crack that?). You need the error correction information to be able the correct the errors and when you rip you dont get that, SPDIF should work but thats slower then hell. PS. Kinda sucks if you have a $1000 CD transport and the CD are Fed when you get them...
noughsaid.

Does anybody bother to read the comments before commenting the comments nowadays? :-)
