Yeah, which is better than changing the DVD when you fly over the next region.
Astronaut 1: Hey! The DVD player just quit!
Astronaut 2: Hmm

Astronaut 2: Oh, looks like we've crossed over Europe; time to change DVD players!
Let's talk configuration
My High School runs Novell Bordermanager as a web proxy/caching system.
It sucks.
Now, the school IT folks have had the word "turnkey" buzzing 'round their minds for quite a while....so this may be badly configured...but
It caches everything
Including content from the web servers *inside* the school, when going outbound.
If the web team changes something here, the rest of te world is SOL
Actually, not 100% true
If the ppl on the other end hit the "Refresh" buttons usually content is updated.
But the system doesn't work for nearly anyone.
People are unhappy.
Aliens and corporations sound like a cooler match. Maybe they should pervert the show for the last episorde so that the aliens and the government are the "good guys" trying to figure the heck out of M&S.
There's also the somewhat sad fact that Western culture profoundly distrusts the person(s) who are not participating in a market or general culture of consumerism. John Katz is forgiven... he pushed the consumerism angle only to segue into our minds:)
I believe that a lot of what is passed over the net in general is totally in the eye of the beholder...which makes "communication" a very clumsy thing. When you read ESRs paper, you are NOT reading his feelings/self/mind so much as yours, and vice-versa for his reading your stuff. That may not be totally true, but I think it holds some ground. Let me ask you: Who are you fighting? Who are you changing? Just an idea...

FSF vs. GNU (Or GNU != FSF & GNU == FSF = 1)

RMS wanted the OS called GNU/Linux and NOT FSF/Linux, referring only to the liscence itself. While you may not agree with the philosiphies RMS is pushing, go ahead an build an OS with a different liscence. Or, you can agree with him and put together another liscence. While Tom does say "A GPL does not GNUware make" he gives little evidence to support this. Whether or not the FSF put in much effort, the GNU name has fame/greatness/guilt by association. RMSs motives can probably not be easily summed up in writing, but he does have them, whatever they are. And they seem to be, on the surface, getting some of his ideals out. And while you may not agree with him, you have to give him credit for his effort and perserverance.
The author gets some points right on in saying that "information flow" can bring up conflicts between cultures, but almost anything else can as well! The idea that cultures "break through" taboos may be correct from one viewpoint, but human nature, even the most kind (some would say especially) does not follow a straight line either. It is great that there is a new way to send information around with less of a "top-down" idea in place, but it is just that. People will (I hope) not get so entrenched in what is happening that they will use it without any awareness and forget about the rest of existence that is happening around them. If they did, they might ignore the walls they have between themselves and the other human beings around them, which I think are the most fundamental.
I think the point here in many of the postings is that what are referred to as Pro-Life/Anti-Choice (can we say black & white thinking?) people here is that they don't want to associate with the people who set up websites with a similar message and content to the one shown. Personally, I think it is knee-jerk reactionism, which is a rather shallow way to go about "solving" a problem. The pro-lifers have pulled away from this and now you're attacking them for it. I may not agree that "silence is acceptance" but I do agree that suppressing the acts of what is truly right for you at a given moment (people who really know what this is probably won't need to knee-jerk to justify themselves) although they do have their motivations, I'm sure. For both sides, pushing and kicking, or on the extreme (and this is the controversy word) killing the other side does nothing (I think) to really resolve the issue. If you disagree you may say so and I'm interested to hear. The kind of silence I believe you talked about is not "acceptance" to me, but suppression and oppression, whether it's done to the "self" or someone else. It's an "untrue silence". If you think bringing discussion here is best, then do that! If it's something else, be with that! Just figure that out and follow it. Trust me, the world will be a better place.
iTunes uses QuickTime components, which are in the list.
Sounds like it's time for someone to launch amihotornotornot.com to review code.
