  1. More of the same crap on Indymedia Server Seized By UK Police, Again · · Score: 1

The UK government doesn't seem to really bother trying to hide all of the atrocities they are comitting and condoning against the common rights of the common man, knowing full well that at the end of the day, MOST people would rather bury their heads in the sand and go back to sleep when someone starts explaining to them what the fuck exactly is happening than stand up and face the truth. They know that they can stage panels with hired actors on bs talk shows to come up with altruistic-sounding arguments to condone the removal of the rights of the people, and quote text from books out of context knowing full well that very few will bother to get off the couch and do the research themselves. Watching the bullshit start to trickle down into New Zealand is starting to really piss me off, all the more so given that we have no constitution and a lot of the rights we take for granted don't implicitly exist. /rant

This of course completely contradicts the experience of the guy who discovered LSD's hallucinogenic properties, who thought Einstein was chasing him around his house with a knife. Of course, he took 250 micrograms, which is ten times the threshold dose, probably not a "low dose" (although it is still a pretty damn small amount)

Ah, old Albert Hoffman. In fact, he was thoroughly convinced that a demon was taking over his body. When his next-door neighbour came around to give him a cup of milk, he thought she was a witch in some sort of demonic mask... He discovered LSD-25 entirely by accident, and because of the demonic tendencies of the drug he and his cohorts had *never* intended it to be used & abused by the masses; that was Timothy Leary's doing. As such, the whole trippy sub-culture brought about from the lsd explosion wasn't exactly met with delight from Hoffman. When Alex Grey presented him with this painting on his 100th birthday he nearly had a heart attack.

Too right mate. To my shame, the thought ofttimes occurs to me that as a nation, us Kiwis are the biggest bunch of complacent sheep out there.

We can tell our fellow New Zealanders about what needs fixing in this country until we're blue in the face, and the majority will say "Nah mate she'll be right" and keep drinking tui and worshipping the All Blacks.

I saw Richard Stallman's copyright vs community speech at the Otago University, and a speaker from the Greens party did the introduction - she made it quite clear that her party was genuinely more concerned about the rest about IT issues; however she mixed tripe about intellectual property and indigenous rights into her speech, which made her look like a silly fool who had no idea what she was talking about, and was trying to make copyright a pulpit for her crappy social policies. Stallman was making faces of agony behind her, and she seemed to have a hard time trying to figure out what we were all laughing about.

Needless to say, the first thing RMS did after her speech was debunk 90% of it.

Seriously? My Nvidia 8600GT can run compiz fine 90% of the time, but whenever I try to game the X-server crashes and I need to crank out the ctrl-alt-backspace (less annoying than a blue screen but still a pain in the arse). This even happens on Tux Racer (I'm not fscking joking lol) If the ATI linux drivers are worse than the latest nvidia drivers you'd be lucky to play "3D Chess" without errors. Yes, the quotation marks are necessary as it's actually 2D.

Nvidia has been opening up. Windows oly video drivers are soon to be a legacy best forgotten.

If this is true, then in all seriousity it is a joyous occasion, and hence a time of celebration. Anybody care to post a link confirming this? Since I switched from XP to Ubuntu the proprietary drivers for my Nvidia 8600 GT have been drilling a hole in my sanity, and I fear that soon my hair may turn prematurely grey.

An uncle of mine works as a deputy mayor for the local government here, and was quite pleased to find out that everybody, including him, that worked in the council would be given a free new laptop. Naturally, he imagined that it would be smaller and faster - alas, now his job is far harder as he has to lug around a big heavy slow piece of shite.

Meanwhile, atomic-scale computing is created, and at this stage its hard to say whether this is a step or a giant leap in the right direction.
