Yeah especially if they committed a crime!! (not that I'm saying he did)
They weren't demanding and no it wasn't reasonable for them to demand money. Sure you'll disagree with me, but what if he had killed a family driving, or went on a rampage killing people or something, what then, where do we draw the line, sure this has the ability to be abused and shouldn't be done on a regular basis, but think of what could have been solved. Hindsight is 20/20 in that scenario.
Yeah and with such a stupid fucking policy I would expect that people would switch to AT&T by the droves. And as such that would be bad policy for them to have.
Not only his life was at stake, but god forbid what if he had killed someone else? What then? This kind of bull should not be tolerated, at all, the police made a simple request to turn on said dudes phone because he could be a hazard to himself (or someone else) so what if dude 'owes' them $20 bucks, it's not going to break their system to turn on his phone for 5 or 10 mins so they can find him, instead 11 fucking hours were wasted, thats rediculous. What do they make in profit a year, $20 bucks is nothing, I could spend that doing just about anything, what I'm saying is that's a drop in the bucket for me, to them that's nothing, it costs them nothing to help out the sheriffs office, hell it even helps them, tax dollars at work right there, how many man hours of work were wasted because of them, they should have to reimburse the office for all that time, what a fucking waste.
wow-what an outrage! one would expect the police to act in a manner that represents the best of us. not like the gang bangers that own the streets when they aren't in town.....
Yeah well not everything on tv can hold water. In any case though, it's more than likely that they have probable cause that the person is under the influence or drugs and/or alcohol, hence they ask them out of the car. Then thats when they ask them if they can search the car, which you failed to mention, and if they don't ask and do it anyways, then anything they find wouldn't be admissible in court. So assuming they asked even though you didn't mention it, they find a knife, gun, drugs, whatever, that's usually when they get put in handcuffs, which if they aren't under arrest I don't see how that is legal for the same fact that I mentioned earlier.
I'm not getting handcuffed if I'm not under arrest, neither are you going to detain me if you're not going to charge me with something.
Sure sure bring the patriot act into it, but what happens when they try to do that and you're not a terrorist? I'm sure you can bring some sort of suit against that cop and/or the department for both unlawful detention, and false criminal accusations and stuff related to that.
So you are saying because a cop 'puts their life on the line' that they can be as crooked as they want, sell drugs, steal shit, harass people, assault people, etc, etc. The obvious answer is no they can't, they still have to abide by the laws that they are sworn to protect.
Um you sir are incorrect, that cop was so full of shit, it's not even funny. The only time you need an 'id' is when you are driving, and by 'id' I of course mean 'drivers license', if you are just about walking around, playing basketball, whatever, there is no reason for you to have an id on you, none whatsoever.
I'm pretty sure if he isn't being accused of a crime, they can't hold him either, in which case I'd be like take off these cuffs and let me go or charge me with a crime, in the case of the latter I'd be getting a lawyer and suing their asses, as I don't see how taking a picture of an atm is a crime, especially as dude points out they are freely available everywhere including from the manufacturer.
That can still be done, even without the internet. Sure it may take some more time, but it still can be done. Besides I don't really see why they would need updating if they are never going to be on the internet. Just a thought...
ffs I wasn't saying xp was bloatware, and the second to last install I did of a nix install required 3 cd's of which I had to repeatedly switch out to install the 'full suite' of packages, it would install one and then say I needed another cd, then install another package, and say I needed the cd I just took out, where the hell is the point in that? I was happy to see the dvd iso with all the cd's on the same disc, oh what a time saver that was...
Indeed. I once ran xp on a 233 with 32 or 64 meg ram I can't remember, took 10-20 minutes to finish booting up, and man I'll tell you what that hard drive was having a conniption fit all along the way grinding and whirring like there was no tomorrow. Good times, good times...
Of course not, doesn't mean they couldn't have helped out.
Yeah it's called windows *laughs*
Might first thoughts exactly, skynet...

Citation over this federal law please, I'd like to do some reading *cough* :D

That's what they were saying...
At any rate he wasn't trying to call 911, he was passed out in a ditch somewhere high as a kite.
The cops were trying to find said dude, by getting his phone turned on (for a few minutes) and establishing a trace to find him.
Hell even if it's on said flow chart they can't help you.
To be even remotely helpful they'd have to speak some sort of english...

at least someone follows my sentiments
I'm saying when they realize you aren't a 'terrorist' unless they just plan on holding you forever even when they know you aren't...
Let me be the first to say google is google bombing it's own results. Good times, good times...
Might have tried searching for 'geico' instead of 'geiko' as that isn't even the right name, sorry but you fail.
All this (bullshit clear violation of our rights) provided by the patriot act. (doesn't sound very patriotic to me)

Um no they can't just question/handcuff anyone they like. That'd be unlawful detention, and they could possibly be sued for it.

A Phoenix-Tucson train would be nice.
I think what would also be nice is bullet-train service to San Diego or Los Angeles.
For 100 trillion dollars I can make that happen, hell we'll make one from the west to east coast. Let me know when the check is in the mail.
