VW and Ford have both produced diesels that pass SULEV (super-ultra-low-emissions) qualification. They did it by filtering out the NOx and Soot. Unfortunately neither is for sale right now, since both companies decided ULEV was "good enough" and cheaper to produce.
Solid-state ROM or RAM requires *gates* and therefore is more complicated than a magnetic/reflective "bit" on a disc. Therefore solid-state costs more to manufacture. Also it requires more space per gate.
Well let's see. Windows sits on 90% of the world's computers, IE is Windows' default browser, and is currently at 50% usage. So it's used by 50/90 or 5/9th of Windows PC users. If a similar proportion of Mac users used the default Safari, that would be 5/9 times 20% == 11% for Safari but real-world usage is only 4%.
So I suspect Macs are NOT at 20% share. Not even close.
>>>Unless you're going to use apple software there's no point in buying apple hardware... you can find better hardware for cheaper prices.
Da-yam. He done bitch-slapped that dude!;-) But seriously: You have a point. If you're going to run Firefox or Chromium, might as well have a cheaper IBM PC-compatible, unless you have some great love for the Mac OS. It's a pretty good operating system but I've never felt the need to spend +$500 to get it. Every Mac I've had was either free, or dirt cheap.
The PAL VHS was developed later, so JVC sacrificed horizontal resolution in order to gain ~1.5 times longer record time (as compared to the original Japan/US spec). Also Pal VHS only has two recording speeds (regular and 1/2), versus three for american or Japanese VCRs (1, 1/2, 1/3).
BTW I'm glad ye all like my Wikipedia VHS time chart. I made it.:-)
Another alternative is to install ~50 gigs in your computer. That too would eliminate the need for hard drive swapping, even if you're using a bloated OS.
>>>even for simple things like opening the start menu.
Or you could just switch to an OS like Puppy Linux or Lightweight Ubuntu. Because they fit inside the RAM, there's no drive-swapping at all. They move at the speed of your computer memory. Instant response. .
>>>makes you feel like a 14 year old girl again
Yes I imagine there's nothing better than being a girl, at peak physical condition, while playing with her vibrating toothbrush. Still... couldn't you pick a better analogy?;-)
Exactly. Solid-state drives have about as much chance of replacing disk drives, as solid-state cartridges replacing discs in Gaming. Building ll those gates in a solid state device is simply ore complicated & expensive versus storing on a simple, flat disc.
Then how come Safari (the default browser on a Mac) only has 4-5% share according to web usage statistics? NPD is a reputable source, but I'd like to see the actual study myself, rather than hearsay.
>>>diesel creates more CO2 (and NOx because of the higher temperatures)
NOx is no longer an issue thanks to NOx-neutralizing converters. Even in California, which has the strictest NOx requirements (almost zero), 2006 or later diesels are able to be sold without violating the law.
As for CO2, I did a comparison one time and discovered that the Beetle TDI (diesel) emits less CO2 per mile than the Beetle gasoline version. The diesel also burned fewer BTUs/mile than the gasoline. That's due to the higher efficiency of the diesel's compression-ignition engine.
Which is why it never should have happened. Didn't I say that in my previous post? (shrug) I'm pretty sure I did. If American soldiers had not been in Iraq, then 70,000 civilians (including that husband and pregnant wife) would not have been killed by American bullets.
First I donated $1000 to the LP to help Harry Browne 2000. Then I ran for office as Libertarian (and lost). Then I realized the LP has no hope of winning, so I put my support behind Republican Ron Paul. How about you? What did you do, besides trolling?
Oh and for the record, the Tea Party started in December 2007 loooong before Obama was even a blip on the radar. (At that time most people assumed Hillary Clinton would be the next president.) The Tea Party was protesting against Bush's idiocy.
When tracker niteshdw.com was yanked by threat of lawsuit by MPAA, the torrents still stayed "alive" for another year because of DHT. I think trackers should enable DHT for the sole purpose of backup (if the tracker disappears or experiences an outage).
Yeah well, good thing I have 6 of them then.:-) Most VCRs will last 10-15 years so basically I'm set for life, unless the VCRs start rotting (not likely). I do have a Panasonic ReplayTV DVR but the quality isn't as good as Super VHS. And hooking-up my computer is more hassle than I want to deal with.
Yes but I still don't need the turntable. Here's one. I picked it because most people will recognize the tune (MC Hammer). Watch the guys in the background: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akVWFiptGNY
"And I send it to (scratch) LL (scratch) Or DJ (scratch) Ron." "All this scratchin' is makin' me itch."
A BRAND-NEW record does have some amazing high frequencies, but after a couple plays the record wears and they disappear, and it sounds little better than a staticy FM radio (50-15,000 hertz). Then the CD or Cassette (20-22,000 hertz) sounds better.
>>>Betamax had slightly higher chroma bandwidth then VHS and stored a reference color burst on the tape.
That's BetaCAM not betamax. VHS and Betamax both used the same "color under" system, with just 0.6 MHz bandwidth. i.e. No difference. In fact some have claimed JVC simply stole a Betamax deck and copied its design, since they are near identical, but nobody's been able to prove it.
Another disadvantage Betamax had was the tape-handling system. In made rewinding and fast-forwarding a tedious process, and also prevented Sony from releasing a Betamax camcorder that could do instant playback (like VHS and VHS-C could do).
>>>The longest readily available tape was the T-120...in Extended play mode for six hours
You say you haven't used VHS in 15 years. Okay fair enough. Fifteen years ago BASF was selling "9 hour tapes" in Kmart. That's T-180. So your claim is fallacious or at least misinformed. Later-on I discovered T-210 which is 3x210 == 10.5 hours, but I admit it I had to buy it from amazon.com.
There's also a T-240 that I acquired direct from JVC. It holds 12 hours on VHS - longest tape ever made. .
>>>but the results were horrible
Yes the SLP mode is blurry, but good enough for a football game, or if you need to go to dinner with your wife and want to record the evening primetime dramas. Eventually I upgraded to Super VHS which really does equal DVD quality at the standard SP setting, and sightly less quality in extended SLP mode.
Betamax also had three different speeds, but it could only record 5.5 hours. Not even long enough to record Sci-Fi Channel's daily marathon.
(1) Remember that diesel has about 1/3rd more BTUs per gallon than gasoline, so achieving 70mpg is no great feat. VW sold a Lupo that got 88mpg highway, and built a three-person family prototype that had 120 mpg.
(2) 70mpg is a challenge for gasoline, but it can be done. Suzuki and Honda have both made 70mpg engines, using 2 or 3 cylinders. My Insight averages almost 90mpg, even with the battery turned off. (The Insight SULEV has also been rated world's cleanest car by greenercars.org.)
I had a lot of problems with website rendering when I tried K-meleon last year.
Also had a tendency to crash, and even though it claims to "use windows standard" components for efficiency, I didn't see it using any less memory than Firefox.
Forgot about the Mac & Linux. I like Opera which stores its bookmarks online (can access them anywhere, even work). Mozilla Camino is also nice since it uses Mac's built-in tools/appearance.
Lightweight Ubuntu & Puppy Linux use Chromium, which is okay, but I still prefer seaMonkey.

You can record SVHS-ET on standard VHS tape, and if you buy quality (like TDK) you won't see any difference from the "real" SVHS tapes.

Familiar sight. I use Links at work. Makes the boss think I'm looking at some boring text-only code, rather than the web.
Does Dillo work on Windows NT 5 or 6? (XP or Vista or Seven) I'd like to try it, but it appears it does not work.
