I think the presidency should be decided by Bush and Gore competing in the Gladiator TV show. I think we can agree that they are both more or less equal in public opinion, give or take half a percent, so what better way to decide the presidency. The advantages of this are as numerous:
The result would be decided quickly, and more importantly, provide great TV coverage for CBS, ABC, CNN etc.
The competition would be easy to understand, everyone is familiar with the rules.
The winner would be seen clearly as the first candidate to cross the finish line of the assault course.
We would know that the candidates are judged on their abilities, rather than money spent campaigning and the help or political aids.
I've been wanting to fit a TV card for a while. Anyone know if there are (going to be) any cards with hardware MPEG4 or DivX encoding built in? That would save a lot of diskspace and time fooling around with the compression tools.
Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows that the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
That's how it goes
Everybody knows
The cassette recorder leads you get with the ZX-81 (and spectrum) will plug straight into a PC sound card. You can then load and save the stuff as audio files. (And distribute them on Napster (if MP3 compression does not screw things up)).
Also, any ZX-81 hackors out there???
I'd love to see "3D Monster Maze" modified to include a rocket launcher...
I did a degree in Electronics, with lots of programming (C mostly). After that I dropped out for 3 years and was a beach bum, then a ski bum.
On returning to the UK CD-ROMS were all the rage and the Internet was startin to boom. I got a job working for a multimedia company and quickly managed to pick up C++ and Windows programming. Five years later I am working as a tech lead in a leading internet company.
It took a lot of work and quite a few late nights getting my head around the new technologies, but the skills required to write solid code and plan a project have not changed form the days of the ZX-81 (and before that I think).
As the others have said, go for it, wherever you are you can still pop in here once in a while and check up on the latest stuff...
I fly paragliders, and in England there can be problems with using a cell phone from altitude. I don't know if this is a legal thing, or if it just applies to the old analoge phones, but using a call phone from a high altitude could, apparently, mess up the system.

I can see it already-
"Candidates ready... Gladiators ready..."
I can't wait.

When I get one I'm going to fit a tyre valve on it, and fill it up free form the air compressors conveniently located on every garage forecourt.
Has anyone tried this???

I can see the new office feature now...
It looks like you're eyeing up that secretary over there! Would you like some help with
chatting up clerical staff?
(*) Suggest subtle approach.
(*) Suggest crude approach.
(*) I'm married, don't bother me again.
-- Now that WOULD be an office assistant!!
