  1. We need a Microsoft Bob-esque interface for X on Open Source's Achilles Heel · · Score: 2

I am planning a Microsoft Bob-style interface for the X windowing system. So far I have the following in place: An opening menu where you start off looking at a zoomed out view of your house. Click the door lock to run xlock, click the mailbox to check your mail. Click the door to open a new xterm-style term. This is like xterm but it will instead be a 3d file navigator. Clicking on the window with the happy person peering out at you will spawn a wine process running Comic Chat, and to logout you click on your bed upstairs. I think that this will be the future of window managers, I'd appreciate any feedback

  2. How do you commune to work? on The Virtue of Communal Instincts · · Score: 0

I used to commune by taking the car, but I found myself in need of more efficient technology. Technology wasn't progressing so I said "I will fit more people into my car, that way I can commune more efficiently." Then came the invention of the train in 1970 -- everything changed. My point is that we must all listen to our id and not take the bus to work, but take our 12 cylinder car instead. As for whether or not we are worried about the messenger or message, I am posting this using my C-64 in 80 column mode. Can you hear this gong noise I'm making?

  3. 1984 the beginning of open source? on Gartner Group Debunking Open Source Myths · · Score: 2

Bill and Ted would be insulted by this, when they went in their time machine they visited Pythagorus who taught them how to do cool things with triangles. His research in progress was open to all and could be expanded upon by any who wished to take his work on. I am offended by the idea that Open Source is an invention out of 1984. I wish I hadn't stopped using my Tae Bo tapes otherwise I would be kicking some ass (only if you provoked me).

  4. Tailored Optimizations for asm conv. on Transmeta Code Morphing != Just In Time · · Score: 1

One thing which hasn't been considered to optimize the high-level->machine level conversion is having the compiler forward the code via network to a Sega Genesis. This code can then be blast processed and converted to something near-native to the transmeta instruction set. Note that line rate is irrelevant as the Genesis implements a ~3x10^70:1 compression ratio for 2 gigs of data in a single cycle. This is only when Sonic the Hedgehog is plugged in. Space Harrier seems to give a bit poorer performance.
