  1. Re:This could be the most important net developmen on ICANN Board Election · · Score: 1

Excellent points. No matter what we all think of ICANN, it will play a role in the Internet's future. Everyone should go and sign up for "At-Large" membership. I've done it and I plan on self-nominating myself to run for the board. I want to make sure the board isn't all corporate influenced. . .

Hey all. Many folks have posted how to get around this and I think more suggestions like this should be made public. . .

However, think of your average user in a company who would, more than likely, get this device installed (with or without knowledge) in the next "upgrade" Bosses could use this to measure productivity in addition to tracking the clickstream with proxy servers and the like.

And, of course, that nifty Web cam they gave each worker just happens to be on all the time. . .

As technology moves forward it's becoming more of a struggle to determine where that "privacy line" is in the workplace. Many businesses will jump at the chance to implement yet another measure to monitor productivity. Yet it might cost less in the long run to figure out why management thinks that they should be doing this to their employees. . .

While we won't have laptops for all, we are beginning to use them for the incoming class this Fall.

Right now, all my exams are given on-line and students can log in from home or the lab and take them.

  4. Virtual U on A Free, High Quality On-Line University? · · Score: 1

I think that on-line universities are for certain people. Many are working folks wanting to get another degree or certification. Perhaps there are even college-age students (or high schoolers) that want to start an education or complete on on-line. However, there are many people who want more than the on-line experience. Sitting in a virtual coffee house discussing some off-the-wall theory is fun, but a real coffee house provides a bit more interaction. We do lose much in on-line communication: paralinguistic cues (like a shoulder shrug or furrowed brow) and many folks like to be in a closer physical proximity when holding a discussion. All that being said, I think we are entering an era in education where there are going to be more choices. The Internet is changing everything at a phenomenal pace -- including education. . .It's a cool time to be alive.
