  1. Another possibility on Meteor May Have Wiped Out Middle East Civilization · · Score: 1

Okay, I don't have my Bible near me, so this will be from memory...But I remember that the Israelites waited by the Sea of Reeds or the Red Sea or whatever it was for a couple nights...I think 3...while Moses 'communed with God' or whatever it is he does. Probably, what he was doing was just checking out the rise and fall of the tides, so that the Israelites all crossed while it was safe, but the Egyptians hit it at high tide. And even more likely than that is that the Egyptians weren't actually killed off by the rising tides, but just got so bogged down in the water that they decided that it wasn't worth it and just turned back...but how could the Israelites know? They just knew that the water rose and the Egyptians didn't come after them anymore...so therefore, they must have been wiped out by their powerful god YHWH.

  2. Not a problem, but it'll be weird for awhile on Wave/Sea Power - What Are the Dangers? · · Score: 1
I think the weirdest part will be the period when the moon is inside our atmosphere, but before it crashes...you know, as the gravity pulls it closer and closer...I mean, it'll probably land fairly gently, over the course of months or maybe even years, but for awhile there'll just be this moon hovering in the atmosphere. It'll play havok with flight plans, and probably knock down a couple of skyscrapers or two before it settles to a stop.

Or at least, that's what it would do, if it wasn't slowly getting farther and farther away from the Earth.

  3. Gotta agree with you there on Up, Up, Down, Down: Part Four · · Score: 1

Civilization is both the most addictive and best game ever created...though I prefer the second incarnation of it better than the first. Civ.2 updated what needed to be updated, but left the core of the game the same: the desire to conquer the world and wipe out your enemies (Yes, I know you could ostensibly win by having centuries of peace...but everyone knows that you just let your opponents build up their railroads so you can nuke all of their cities in one turn and take over all cities with only one unit...Mutually assured Destruction only works in non-turn based reality). As addictive as Asheron's Call was for me last year, and as addictive as Half-Life and Counter-Strike are for me right now, nothing compares to the raving crack fiend I was on Civ. 2. In fact, this is inspiring me to want to go play right now. Screw the crack of the AWP or the howl of a flame bolt in AC. I want to hear the canned "We Love the King" cheering right now. Bye all. -Loki

  4. Re:Extintion on UK Publishes Asteroid Armageddon Report · · Score: 1

    > Then they go on to say that an asteroid is responsible for the extintion of the dinosaurs. Just curious, but when was that theory proven? Yes, that theory has been proven within the limits of scientific study. A large crater at the Yucatan that's been dated to the K-T barrier (65 million years ago), along with tsunami evidence from the same time, along with any number of other evidence has shown within a scientific reasonable doubt that a meteor (or comet) caused the extinction of the dinos. If you're wondering about this, read "T-Rex and the Crater of Doom" by Walter Alvarez. It's a remarkably lucid demonstration of how true this actually is. Check your sources before you start accusing scientists of being "shoddy."...especially when you're the one doing the shoddy work. -Loki

    > How about exploding US embassies in foreign countries? How about the US guiding missles into foreign embassies in foreign countries (sorry 'bout that China)? 6. Yes, Open Source is great, but... on Red Hat 'Piranha' Security Risk - And Fix · · Score: 1

The tone of the article is very biased. For those of you who didn't read it, the article's tone seemed to be accusing Red Hat in particular and Linux in general of having "serious security holes". They make it seem not as a triumph of the Open Source community, but a fatal flaw of the community that was luckily discovered before it could be horribly abused...but Red Hat is "downplaying" the impact of it. Maybe this is just me being a paranoid here, but I don't think you have to go much farther than this article for a great example of media bias against the open source community. Of course, it could just be the tendency for journalists to try to make everything sound like it's going to bring society to a screeching halt (Y2K anyone?). Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. -Loki Trickster

  7. I got the killer!!! on Review: "Scream 3" · · Score: 1

Well, sort of...I got the right reasons for the killer but the wrong one...oh well. Actually, I should say "we"...the best way to see the Scream movies is with a bunch of horror film literate geeks who talk through their theories...about two thirds of the way through we had it figured out, for the most part.

Oh, and you forgot to mention some of the best parts, including the wonderful cameos of some of geeks favorite movie characters and actors.

  8. Have you ever actually been to China? on China and the MPA · · Score: 1

Sure it's a Communist country, and it's done some shitty things, but it's not as stupidly backwards as you seem to believe it is. I don't know what the "AIDS baths" are that you're talking about, but if you'll remember, our own country hasn't exactly been all that advanced on stopping aids itself until very recently. Give 'em a break, their country is five times the size of ours, of course they have bureaucracy problems. You're right, it does sound racist. -Loki
