  1. Re:EMACS!!! on Ask Slashdot: Which Web Authoring Tool is the Best? · · Score: 1

Emacs is good, but XEmacs is better. It even checks your html for errors.

Perhaps you should be more specific about "it". The default html-mode isn't too bright, but I've just discovered html-helper-mode, which is highly intelligent. I use it in conjuction with hitop, an html preprocessor.

The results may be found here. ;)

  2. That's nothing... on American Programmers are Slackers · · Score: 1

I bet I'm the only software engineer here who primarily hacks PL/M.

FWIW, my PL/M output is relatively low (due to the quantity of documentation and bureaucracy that goes with it and the spagettification of the legacy code), ditto C, perl output is high (mostly for fun) and HTML probably doesn't count. I don't count lines, so I have no idea.

I would give a link to PL/M, but I've only ever seen it mentioned in the Retro-computing museum and I've lost the link to that. ;)

  3. Generic CADD, DOSEmu, and IMSI on GPL CAD to Linux · · Score: 1

Personally, I would prefer an AutoCAD Linux port (oops, I mean GNU/Linux... Sorry RMS ;) ) but I use Generic CADD quite extensively for my 2D work, and like it.

AutoCAD?!? Are you mad? AutoCAD really is the Windows of the CAD world - it sucks dead goats through a straw. /I'd/ like to see ParaCAD on Linux.

FWIW, my Dad runs a one-man-and-his-dog engineering business, and the single thing that's stopping him ditching Microsoft tomorrow is the search for a decent CAD package. ATM he uses ParaCAD. Seriously, I would be interested to hear suggestions of a package that's up to the job (mechanical and electric engineering, BTW) under Linux.

(And no, I'm not going to post a URL for his business - he doesn't need /.ing...).
