  1. Usage depends on performance on How Much Java in the Linux World? · · Score: 1

Most of the reponses I've read (have read all the 3 and 3+ ones), have been like:
    1. Yeah, we're using java, but we won't talk about
the performance. We use it only for being a cross platform software.
    2. Yeah, look at sf/freshmeat. There are a lot of projects.
    3. Java doesn't have so and so feature

The debate, methinks, was about Java being in heavy usage on Linux. The reason, why something would be in heavy usage, is that, the particular software would out perform it's competitors (hopefully, by leaps and bounds), and Java has issues with performance. I'm not getting into Java Vs C++ performance here, but how many enterprise software apps are being used, which are written in Java.
