I leaked tons of info and hints that WC CDROM/BSDi/Wind River/FreeBSD Mall/Slackware Linux was hitting the bottom... Just because its not being repoted dosn't mean its not happening.... It wasn't till I opened my trap to Slashdot that it would be covered...
The only regret I had was BSDi. I never dealt with WRS... The Ex BSDi management is now down to 9 people I hear... Management only... http://www.ixsystems.net/ is out souceing everything from what I hear.... But you won't hear that on any of the Linux Zines I am sure.
important and very practical application to our current situation. If it gets abused in some way, then we'll change it and fix it.
No we won't, congress will. Yes we vote them into power, but it don't mean congress will reject it in 4 years if it is being abused. One would hope it would. But it dosn't mean it will. We don't have a TRUE democarcy here. We don't get to pick and choose.
They say we learn history so we are not doomed to repeat it. We are respeating it. And there was a reson why such laws were put into place in the fist place, becase they were abused.....
Well Being an ex Walnut Creek CDROM and a BSDi person, let me say this, Walnut Creek CDROM was near its end. We were not shure if we were even going to get paid, till Gary Jhonson, ex CEO, made advances to buy our company. It was a dead idea for the most part when the company was trying to expand beyond selling shareware and Freeware. To run such a staff, to press CD's there was no way the support for FreeBSD or Slackware could continue. Damn I miss those guys... Slackware that is...
And to ansewr nvrrobx's question of Apple buying up the FreeBSD crew; Let me point out, Jordan Hubord, now works at apple, and let me also point out he cares about the people who worked under him at WC CDROM/BSDi/WRS, and I know of at least one possable "offer" there. Im sure there were others made also. I think its officaly under the Darwin Project, I donno, I don't keep tabs that much.
If you read into what was being said, he never went after a down-loader... Only a "server".. As I doubt he will go after the leacher any day soon. Its too easy to say, "I didn't know" and proveing intent...
When I worked for Butte College, I put up a packet sniffer on the the lab's. It watched for key words, and alerted me via audio. Then with back orfice I would watch and record what they were doing. If they were breaking the rules. I would get my boss and point it out. Where this became a problem, my co workers found out what I was doing and triggering those key words for the fun of it.
They will also be required to only allow persons 18 and over to play them. I cannot imagine how this is constitutional." Um how is this un-constitutional? Kids in the USA do not have constitutional rights. If they could, they would have the right to vote. They do have basic human rights however. And playing viloent or objectional games is not a right by any means.
As much as I would like to agree, I can't. If a post containing illegal information were posted, pointed out by the owner, to the message board would become responsible for removing it. I have a feeling the students were trying to reap as much money as they could. Trying to hold the ISP, responsible for allowing the item to be sold. I am sure once they found out it was an illegal copy, the offending website was removed. Not helping slash dot at all. As I understand it Slashdot is saying, no, I won't remove the posts, even tough you claim they are illegal. I'm glad Slashdot isn't removing them. I think Microsoft is being more than little stupid.
I would too. But I doubt it is likely to happen. Being MOST filter's are in place by choice. Majority of public places do not have such things in place. And what would they sue off of? I chose to use the filter; now I can't access beaver.edu?
Thats becase WC CDROM/BSDi is mostly full of FreeBSD fans... We run all our servers off of the same file server... If it be FreeBSD, Slackware, OS/2 or windows software. Im the only slackware user in the company, beyond the slack crew. (Mind you, Im not anti-FreeBSD.) So Patrick is a little out numbered with the FTP server, and running Slack Linux on it.

I don't have the URL.... But Creative Labs DVD Dx2. However it is TV output last I saw.. I have seen others in the makeing. And one trend I see for the Linux DVD market. The decodder is hardware based. In alot of ways I feal its a smarter role. Orginaly DVD was not going to allow software based decoders at all. I have also seen a few companys who are WORKING on decoders for linux... Every company so far has shown off some sort of PCI card...
Another reason I think the group was soo small, 1 alot of us work full time and can not do such a protest on a weekday.. *Sigh* and ton of us don't live in that area....
I do not know what I am allowed to say publicly yet. But I promis you this. WC CDROM has no intention of letting Slackware go. Patick, and the team work full time on the project now. I donno if the interview has been published yet. But If I recall the interview answers your questions.
