all I am after, is a simple tool to switch networks on the fly... I can make wireless work great, but if I don't connect to the network I want the first try, I am stuck...
kismet requires special drivers to scan, but if you figure that winxp comes with a simple interface for this built-in, it's kinda depressing that we can't seem to build a good tool that can do that, list the available networks, and give a good connect to them.. (without beating my head on the kernel modules, been there, it hurts, especially when you go to upgrade the kernel) so anyone know of anythign simple that a newbie who's been around too long to be a newbie, like me hasn't found yet? that's been what i've been digging around for a while to find...
currently using a dell truemobile 1150 pcmcia, and fedora core 2... kernel is 2.6.8-521.. off the top of my head, I think that's right, but is there a universal solution? that's the real question...
our local S&R in eastern oregon is run by the sherriff's dept. just go in and talk at them, assumeing it's the same deal.. they are usually very anxious for new people to join and help out. all you usually need is a will to help, a 4wd rig or a snowmobile is helpful, often they will train for first aid and CPR... just volunteer, we need more people to do just that.
when I trek into the back country I do it to be _away_ (tho I have considered dragging a linux laptop wiht solar and a gps deal just to be able to see where I've gone and how far, but I digress) I generally just bring what I need to survive, and I have been trained and hav ehte knowledge of the country, skills, and tools to survive, (don't get me started on the folks who go in unprepared) so I would say that I don't want anyone ot be able to have any idea where I am when I want to be lost for a while, and I know I'm an old redneck sort, but I prefer the old ways when I'm out there... so I say we provide better resources for training and get people educated, just finding them doesn't do any good if they couldn't figure out how to find drinkable water for the 3 days it took to get to them.
moral is, go prepared, search and rescue is great, I have helped on some, (even had an old CS prof who was heavily involved where I went to school) but education is more important than tracking idiots.
the US has only used nukes once since they were created, the deterent was to other countries with the same capabilities (those countries have since become our allies, tho the theoretical deterent still exists)
the guy with bombs strapped to his chest is going to kill people, as many as he can. not since the 1800's has the US purposely killed as many people as it could just for the sake of killing them. (arguably, but I contend that there has since always been a larger reason for the force used, if miscalculated) terrorists do this to undermine social stability and simply kill those who disagree with them. (note: by being of a different nationallity, you are instantly labelled as disagreeing with them, it's not a choice thing)
it's an apple and oranges thing... when was the last time Bush threatened to nuke france if they didn't do what we wanted them to? in spite thier differences, the US allowed france to make its own choice.
my fear would be that we get a terrorist regime in charge of the US's or another countries nukes... then the deterent is of no value, destruction of the world may well be thier desired end...
find a slack ware user, and check out the blurb on distrowatch
of slackware:
Perhaps the best characteristic of this distribution I have heard is this: If you need help with your Linux box, find a Slackware user. A Slackware user is more likely to fix the problem than a user familiar with any other distribution.
9mm? that can't be nearly big enough, I usually figure I need one that can place a hole just under a half inch....45 inches (or caliber) is just about right, in my estimation.
but I carry a leather man, and a pocket knife at all times, just so I have the tool to cut rope and open packaging, etc, and the tool to tear a computer down...
but that's just me...
sorry.. it's obligatory...

I think this means we have total market dominance in the area of hacks!
tho this is one market I would have rather not 0wn3d...
but then, what do I know... don't be surprised if we get sued by microsoft for infringing on thier market of 'most hacked'
and don't even get me started on whether the boxen were cracked or hacked...

or they went cross-country, or took another trail out... I think that would get more complicated than it sounds right off...
I would be against it, and here's why
