Ken Lay said something to the effect of "At least the Titanic went down with the lights on."

Actually CEO behind their failure (Schilling?) said that, not Ken Lay. The press has focused almost entirely on Ken Lay, and very little has been said about the people who were in charge during the creation of their corrupt practices.

I'm not saying Ken Lay was innocent (he was a board member), but by all accounts the company was already wrecked and corrupted when he took over a few months prior to the bankruptcy.

In 1998 I worked for a company that used HP NetMetrix (LAN and WAN probes with collection software under HP/UX). One day I recieved three large boxes, inside each box were four smaller boxes. Inside each smaller box was a box that was 8.5"x11"x1". Inside every 8.5x11 box was one sheet of paper with a notice about firmware upgrades for the probes....

The really funny thing was that medium boxes were filled with bio-degradable peanuts and the paper was recycled. I guess HP wanted to be environmentally friendly.

What makes you think Northern California wants anything to do with Silicon Vallay/San Fransisco? The best proposal I've ever heard was to split the state into thirds (roughly equal geographically). You would end up with a rural northern (no big cities), a leftist central (San Fransisco/Sacramento), and a nutcase southern (LA, San Diego, etc)... This was proposed a few years back by a legislator from Butte County (in Norther CA).

There is absolutely NO excuse for running a red light

Sure there is... I was ticketed once in Sacramento for running a redlight on Broadway. The light was yellow for 2 seconds (seriously, I went back and timed it). The speed limit was 35, so 2secs=50ft (if my math is right). The State's own DMV handbook says that reaction time to stop is approximately 2 seconds. This means that if I'm between 50 and 100 feet away when the light turns yellow I'm almost guaranteed to run it, and I did!

Even if no one is in sight, you're gonna lose at most, what, 20 seconds waiting for your green?

Obviously you've never driven in Fairfax county! If you get stopped at a red light on Hwy 50 (which has cameras) or Rt 28, your going to be there 4-5 minutes. This is in contrast to CA which has a 2 minute maximum light cycle.

Speed is the determining factor in the severity of the accident

That's very true- if both cars were parked there would be no injury.

Also, consider the prevention capabilities - the black box sends a warning to the cops

I say lets start with monitoring police cars. They of course are exempted from most of the vehicle code when their lights and sirens are on, but when they're not I say they should be fired and prosecuted for violations.

I lived in Sacramento, CA for several years and I can say without a doubt the worst drivers I have ever seen were the cops there (city, county and state). In a good year ('97 I think?) they killed 12 people in car wrecks, and no officers were ever prosecuted. I personally witnessed two near collisions caused by negligent driving by cops in Sac. Both cases involved cops involved in high speed maneuvers without lights or sirens...

I've never had BB ask for my receipt, although I always expect them to. I got in the habit a long time ago at fry's to just say 'no thanks' and not even slow down for them. Sometimes its the best part of the trip.

What you may not realize is that its well established that at the time of the transaction you own the product, the bag, and the reciept. I BB (or Fry's) wants it they need your permision.
