  1. Firefox ? on HP to Install Netscape on all new PCs · · Score: 1

The answer may be obvious, but why not firefox + thunderbird instead of the quite "heavy" netscape suite ?
Plus the fact that netscape sounds sooo 90's while firefox got some momentum lately...

    anyway, my 2 cents...

  2. From my experience... on SMS Messaging Unreliable · · Score: 1

    ...It depends on the network.

Here in France, the worst I had is one SMS received like 3-4 hours late (both phone being on-line) out of like 200-300 SMS sent.

On the other hand I've worked w/ some other OTAC platforms (Over The Air Control) like in Egypt and Switzerland, and results were more ...hum... random.

I was studying computer science when it happened, and we had a guy from arianespace that came to our campus a few month later and made a conference on the subject.

    hmmm... very interesting source...

OK, I should have said more. I'll do next time.
    I spit.

Actually, it should be: "Kourou, we have a problem",

hmmm and "Kourou, ya une couille dans le potage" ?
    never mind...

  6. First Ariane 5 failure... on Uprated "10-ton" Ariane 5 Fails · · Score: 5, Informative

... was due to re-used software code from the Ariane 4 program, except that some values that the soft was supposed to handle were WAY bigger than during the (near perfect, by the way) Ariane 4 program. It was a plain overflow issue... The worst comes: the issue was known and documented, but somehow forgot during the upgrade from V4 to V5...

Anyway, it's pretty sad (AND NOT DUE TO THE USE OF THE METRIC SYSTEM, for you US fellows ;))

  7. Battery IS the key on Hello Kitty May Be Key to 3G Survival · · Score: 1

I don't know if you remeber, but WAP's meaning was for a long time "Where Are the Phones". As long as the device itself won't be able to allow killer app for cheap with a battery life comparable to a standard i-only-talk-into-it phone, neither 2.5 nor 3G won't go easy.
Today, even for 2.5G, mobile and infrastructure makers can't use the full bandwith because of battery life issues (I heard about less than 1/2 of theorical GPRS bandwidth being actually used, for instance).
So, even if a killer app would exist, it would need:
    - better batteries
    - more powersaving electronics
    - better device size / screen size ratio

Another lead is of course business users for laptop access, but 1) WiFi may be a better contestant and 2) it's not what we could call "mainstream"
