  1. Animation... on How Do I Put Unused Servers To Work? · · Score: 1

Find local or close by animation houses and sell the processor time to the animators. They always need more processor time for any of their attempts at processing things.

Sorry to contradict you but quite a few of the employees at video games stores DO know what they are talking about. It's their job. I used to work at EB and we prided ourselves on knowing as much as we could about the industry. When were things coming out? Who canceled a release and why? Will there be enough Xbox 360's for release day? What types of gameplay are in what game? Our ability to know our subject is what seperated our store from the Gamestop's of the world. And our customers were very loyal because of it.
Yes, some stores *cough* GameStop *cough* do have incompetent help. It's unavoidable. Much like Walmart, sooner or later you are going to be stuck hiring the bottom of the barrel.
However, the employees that you met, were you nice to them? Or did you treat them like sales drones? I rather suspect that if you treated them with the contempt that you show in your posting, they didn't want to talk to you.
On further thought, I rather suspect that there is at least one GameStop store out there that isn't staffed by rejects from the local literacy campaign.
While I have moved on from the not so glorious world of retail game sales, I felt it appropriate to provide an alternate view.

  3. Re:This is a toughie, for sure. on Developing Subversive Software? · · Score: 1

Dude... Thank you very much for the Info on the new type of corporation. I had no information and I, for one, found it very useful as a comparison to the GPL. A corp that can't be bought out and subverted... Excellent.

As for anything else. I have a high score filter on my reading of things. So most of the trash talked by other people go away. But I fully support everything you said about an artist being most free when he can produce and distribute his own stuff without having to bow or bend to the RIAA.

As for if the RIAA gets it illegal to rip stuff... Go for it. Noncommercial use fully allowed... I love it. Wish 90% of the CD's today had that kinda thing. Nobody seems to remember the grateful dead and their freedom to record and distribute live concerts and other things to other fans. It's part of what helped get the word out about the band.

*sigh* I'm rambling... but i support the idea of having independant production facilities. Go for it.
