  1. Re:TeamViewer on Ask Slashdot: Options For FOSS Remote Support Software? · · Score: 1

This is also key when you are dealing with an ISP that gives you a NAT'ed IP, instead of a real address. Mac OS X VNC was pretty limited in options (no reduced color mode to help with latency, no attach to listening client). I found having a support script that forwarded the OS X remove VNC port to a remote host to have intolerable latency. TeamViewer is not perfect, but it did mostly work to support a remote Mac better than any other solution I tried.

Are you sure you want to compare Opera's privacy policy with Apple's? Opera has always been forthcoming about their goals and data usage. They promote Unite as privacy feature since "You own your data" not a social web-site host.

Unless you use a TPM...oh wait Slashdot hates TPMs. This was what trust-based technologies were meant to fight.

I have found the opposite to be true. Opera works better than Firefox for internal pages at our company (which is ie6 focused).

To be more correct, companies need to be careful how they use external code. GPL is unfairly picked on; when violating the terms of use for any code (free or commercial) is a bad move. How can they dissallow open source? That has to be a mistake, I doubt that the Wii SDK is devoid of any BSD/Apache/whatever source.

  6. Re:Seems pretty clear to me on Concrete Comparisons of Theora Vs. Mpeg-4 · · Score: 1

Ogg is the transport, Vorbis is the CODEC. Are you saying that MP3 or MP4 are exciting? At least there is differentiation for CODEC and transport. How about the fact that mpeg 4 asp or AVC or H.264 can be in an avi, wmv, mp4, etc.? A distinctive name seems better than all the overlapping nonsense.

  7. Re:Not a problem on Google Bans Tethering App From Android Market · · Score: 1

I believe that Google has restored access to the tether apps outside US. Funny thing, the app mentioned is still available for download from code.google.com in apk form. If you can root the phone you can certainly find these programs. There is even a version tracking app for programs outside the market to alert you for updates. Pulling an app from the market only carries weight for paid apps.
