It seems very strange that people might complain about a lack of applications for Linux. It used to be that way, but now, there is virtually any application you would like for Linux (MS Office excluded, of course).
Last week, I sat in on an IBM presentation about WebSphere for the mainframe, and they mentioned that the reason you might want to run Linux on the mainframe was due to the large number of applications available under Linux.
