  1. why not computer-controlled sailing cargo vessels on Computer-Controlled Cargo Sailing Vessels Go Slow, Frugal · · Score: 1

why not add solar panels, wind turbines, and the ability to burn ocean crud as fuel? Its the cost of fuel, not the lack of automization that makes them slow moving.

I think the key here is that "legitimate government expenses" is somewhat of a subjective term.

"directly taxation to those things that lead directly lead to government spending" does not mean that the tax revenue is linked linearly to the spending, nor does it mean the tax rate strictly covers the amount spent on each event.

Nor, I am not sure how crime is automatically equated to bankruptcy. As it is now in California, those who receive citations, holding, court dates and lockup are all responsible for paying fees for each step in the process. Criminal law is the one place where the fees and penalties actually make sense.

I think we can both agree that the government has strayed fat from both legitimate expenses AND legitimate taxation.

and, Just because something exists doesn't mean that is justified to tax it.

The only things that should be directly taxable are those things that directly lead to government spending.

  4. its not just about the inbroadcast advertising on Hulu Munging HTML With JS To Protect Content · · Score: 1

You kids just dont't get it. Both Hulu and Boxee are trying to create social communities and there is cross advertising - most notible as film trailers - on the site.

Why should Hulu pay for all the content for Boxee to use it for free?

  5. Re:Why is that the real problem? on ABC/Disney Considering Hulu · · Score: 1

Boxee circumvents the website, it does not display the site as web browser does. THe web site is part of Hulu's business plan. Boxee is not a web browser, its a media browser. I am not sure if you understand the difference between a media browser and a web browser.

Regardless if you manage to circumvent DRM and or advertising, someone is paying for this content. Your unauthorized use of the content will mean the loss of jobs for someone else.

  6. Why is that the real problem? on ABC/Disney Considering Hulu · · Score: 1

Why should a third party (boxee) be able to hijack Hulu's content for free? Boxee is a late-comer to an already crowded service niche. I love Boxee, but unless they are paying for online content, they have no rights to it. Content on one's hard disk is presumed to be already with in the user's rights to use.

I agree with both your opening statement and the idea that this is something impossible to justify.

    Here are additional reasons
    1) Just because the RIAA issues a take down statement, doesn't mean its a valid complaint.

    2) AT&T is in no position to evaluate what kind of content an individual has legal access to.

Do we really want to live an additional 2+ years? The cost of living and the numerous health issues related with longer life spans just makes those additional years painful. I am watching my grand parents and parents suffer into the 90s. It might be better to die at a younger age before you have to sell your house and live on senior welfare.

I totally agree. The Wii has an online store. Its not a competitor to the iPhone.

For the DS to compete with the *iTouch* it has to have a one click music download as well.

Besides, do adults and working professionals carry around DSes? Seems to me its more of a kid/teen gadget.
