Just exactly my thoughts. I can't get to the article now so I have to take your word on its tone. But, regardless what the article says, I'm really suprised that Taco makes a sweeping innuendo against Microsoft in that they were behind the entire thing. C'mon. That just sounds stupid. If the article hinted at it, ok. If there was some reason to think they _were_ actually trying to stage a PR stunt (not that I would put it past them) then, ok. But Geez. That's kinda thin to jump to that kind of speculation, based on one crap article that claims that this couldn't happen on Windows, isn't it? Or is it just me.

Hee hee, stop the whales from eating plankton! These giant animals with insatiable appetites are mercilessly exploiting these utterly defenceless micro-organisms! Billions a day are consumed by these voracious leviathans who apparently have no regard for the tiny souls that are sacrificed in the name of nutrition!

Gads, I appreciate respect for life in all its forms, but sometimes...

Senseless and unnecessary exploitation of living things is sickening (cutting the fins off sharks for soup and tossing the rest of the shark into the ocean comes to mind). Skinning a cow to make a PC case (which didn't happen in this case) would be equally vile, IMO. Mowing the lawn? Eating a tuna sandwich? Dunno...

I like Drew Carey's stand up bit...

Dolphin safe tuna? Sure, worry about the dolphins, what about the tuna? ...see a tuna flopping around on the deck of one of these boats... 'What about me, you Son of a Bitch!!?? Not CUTE enough for ya?'

Yep, I had to pay a visit to sblock.ini today to add link4ad.com -- something new started today.

Damn annoying when you aren't used to seeing banners at all and one as this 'interactive' one with the black and yellow stripes and all. Thank god for junkbuster.

(yes, I know it's OT and it won't hurt my feelings a bit if it is moderated down)

Ok, that looks cool, but it raises a question:

How long before it looks like crap from dust build-up and how often are you forced to open it and blow it out with compressed air, and even then, will it ever look as cool as it does before you ever turn it on and start trapping dust?

  5. Re:Nothing for Windows Servers! on FBI Releases Updated DDoS Detection Tools · · Score: 1

I thought what I read was that there was a common MO of exploiting a well-known RPC vulnerability to gain access to a system (and then plant trin00 ot TFN), but that the DDOS client itself does not rely on this RPC issue to function.

But it is puzzling why there is no NT version (that scans the host). Maybe they haven't found any instances of NT being used in these recent attacks, and so they don't know what to look for?

The source for the network scanner looks like it just emulates trin00 and TFN masters and reports any client responses. Presumably, this would work regardless on the platform the client runs on as long as it sends a "PONG" or whatever, you know your network has been compromised somewhere and then you're supposed to just call in the Fed's and they'll show up in black GMC's outside your door and unplug all your machines and take them back to the office to examine them. Thanks.
