in my system it was not enough to download the patch. I had to use Windows Update and select the IE upgrade from the website.
It seems that the "patch" is just an install program, because it downloads a bunch of additional files from MS site (~8 MB depending on what you choose).
I agree with you on this one. Crappy motherboars are what keep me from choosing AMD processors for the systems I build. Configuring a "cheap" VIA based motherboard can get really nightmarish if you want to use fast AGP and ATA66.
OTOH configuring an Intel based (BX or 810) is a snap, no compatibility problems, no misterious hangs, no memory rejection or disk driver malfunctions.
I just hope that the Cyrix3 is stable enough with cheap motherboards (if you suggest I buy better, pricier motherboards why bother with Cyrix?, go PentiumIII or even Duron with quality mobos, i think Celerons won't cut it anymore)
Unfortunately, I was already "engaged" with CS at that time.
But yes, I realized that I wanted to study CS because it looked like art, and yet it was something practical. But after the Software Engineering course (what! is it ENGINEERING after all?) I was sadly aware that CS was headed to the "no artists here, just things that work well enough" paradigm instead of the "pauca set matura" (few but mature) paradigm that was the motto of K.F. Gauss, my favorite mathematician.
